I went with Rebel XTi... where's my rationale

I've been closely following the highly charged debate around D400 vs D80 noise war. Given my perhaps my over generalized observation from all the comments and analysis that has been offered up, it appears that both cameras are very close noise wise, so I went with the Canon for the following reasons:
  • Noise levels appear to be very good for either camera.
  • Price. 400D is cheaper than D80, plus I was able to get $90 off the kit at Circuit City.
  • 400D features are sufficient for my needs.
  • I’m moving up from a 300D so the learning curve is very, very low
  • I already had a Sigma 18-125 lens and have sights set on the 70-200 f2.8 so anything I can save will go against the expensive, but praised, 70-200 f2.8.
  • I think I like the lighter and smaller footprint of the Canon, but the jury is still out on this one.
  • I had invested in a ScopeTronix MaxView setup for my Celestron NextStar 8 telescope.
The following shot was taken at ISO 1600 and Shutter speed 320. http://www.pbase.com/taze/image/66549587/large

Does anyone know why the picture did not post inside the orginal message. I thought all you had to do is copy the picture URL into the body of the message What am I missing?

I just figured it out. I needed to add .jpg to the end of the pbase URL.

BTW, does anyone know the optimal setting for taking moon shots using a telescope? In experimenting some last night it seems the higher the shutter speed the more crisp the shots were, but obviously there is a trade off in ISO.

I used a lower ISO (200), and a lower shutter speed (1/150s) and f5.0 when I took this shot last year. It was also through a Celestron 8" SCT. I used the cameras (fuji s602z) self timer to cut down on camera shake. I still think even my shot was overexposed though. I should have taken some at a bit higher shutter as well. Oh well I can try again sometime.

Also You might want to try some post processing on that image you already have there. A bit higher contrast and lower brightness might help bring out some detail.

Here it is with those changes, Don't know if that is what you are going for though. I didn't try USM on it yet but you can try that as well on your full sized pic.

Thanks. I tried to fix the over exposure in post processing but that will only take it so far. I'll get it right next time. Maybe after I get my first DSLR. I'm leaning towards the XTi. Good luck when you try again.
