First let me thank everyone for their recent input about slideshow software.

I am down to two
ProShow Gold
CodeJammer

I have 2 main questions left

1) Will both of these allow multiple songs to be played (one after the next after the next until the slideshow it complete)?

2) After creating the slideshow with all the transitions, will my TV DVD player (not necessarily new) play these transitions?

Lastly
They both are approx. the same cost - which would you buy?

I personally like a few of the features in CodeJammer, but I like the interface of the ProShow Gold.

I've heard good things about both and some not so good things about both.

Thanks again for the previous help -

can't say about the other program, but ProShow Gold will do both of what you asked regarding music and transitions. I just did a family reunion dvd that had over 2400 images and 2 hours of music without any problems with proshow. what you see on your computer is what you will get on your tv after rendering the movie and burning it to dvd.

I am very partial to Proshow Gold. Also know that version 3 of Proshow Gold is coming soon. Its in beta now. If you buy version 2.6 now you will get version 3 for free when it comes out. You get 1 year of free upgrades.

For your questions, Proshow will allow multiple songs to play one after the other. And yes, it will make DVD's that will play in most DVD players including the transitions. Also know that its not whether either of these programs will produce DVD's that your player can play, but whether your DVD player can play home burned DVD's. There are 2 formats that both programs support which are DVD-R and DVD+R. Check out http://www.videohelp.com . They have a pretty compete listing of DVD players and what they will play.

So what feature(s) do you like better in MOTV than Proshow ?

Good luck
Jason

CodeJammers has some pretty neat transitions.

It allows multiple images on the screen at the same time - flipping and doing a bunch of other acrobatics.

HOWEVER, based on what everyone else has replied with (yourself included) I plan on purchasing Proshow Gold this evening.

Thanks Everyone.

My only complaint about ProShow Gold is the USB key they make you use to use the software (like it really matters since you can crack it and not have to use it so why bother the use with a peice of hardware that takes up an important USB slot. Besides there are other and better programs out there that are more deserving of such over the top protection. We are talking about a slideshow program here not the combination generator for Fort Knox). And, they do not support Flash output for your slideshow they instead make you put it up so that it calls on their server to work. I don't like that one bit. I also wish they hand more professional transitions, just how many wipes and fade types do we need. I would like to see transitions in the 3D area like they use on network TV, something smooth and cool looking.

I think you should make a dvd with both and see which you like better.

I am a fan of MemoriesOnTV and dont like the way you have to use 3 slides in PSG to do a slide that pauses, zooms then pauses again. I also could never get good resolution on very deep zooms. In MOTV I can zoom all the way down to someones eye glasses and see a reflection in the glasses. The multiphoto opisons are cool too. You can also have your video saved in HD. There are specail DVD players out their that will play HD Divx now and they only cost $200 to $300.

You should decide for youself after making some test DVDs.

OK, I just checked the lastest version of PSG and I am able to do a deep zoom without loss of resolution. Now do you still need 3 slides to do a pause before and after a zoom in PSG.

Robert,

Thats their professional version of Proshow which is called Producer that needs the key. Proshow Gold does not need a USB key to work.

Yes, with the current release (2.6) of Proshow Gold you need to add a slide for each time you want to change direction. Its not really that big a deal, at least to me because I dont change directions that much that it becomes a pain to use. I normally just do a slow zoom in or out or maybe a little panning in 1 direction before moving on to the next slide.

Have a good weekend

I dont think you will be disappointed and remember version 3 is coming and Photodex is not the type of company to let their software fall behind. You should join this forum that is dedicated to Proshow Gold and Producer users at http://itsmygallery.com/ProShow/

I've seen a few articles where it says Photodex has released PSG 3. Does anyone know when it will be released?

I do not know of the release date yet for Proshow Gold/Producer 3. Not sure why some of the magazines stated it has been released. We are still beta testing them at the moment.

slideshow producer for me... takes only a few minutes to throw some photos into the software.. add some music.. use the default transitions.. maybe add some pans/zooms here and there and create a DVD menu. Master.. burn and a quick and easy product to sell to my clients..

Given that the clients also want copies... this is a really easy and quick money maker.

It was buggy for me early on.. but has been running stable in latest release. Make sure you are using a PC with good memory (1GB).. it is very unstable when run on

Good Lucky!

Well, the FREE Microsoft Photo Story 3 does all that you ask providing you have a DVD burner (otherwise you can use a CD).

You might try the download. It can be learned almost instantly by following the simple 1-2-3 Wizard.

Interesting I have both ProShow Gold 2.6 and ProShow Gold Producer 2.6 sitting here and they both have dongals and they both have warnings that if the dongal is lost you will have to buy the whole package all over again.

Hmmmm.

Robert

Seriously, Gold does not require a dongle to work. Something must be wrong somewhere with your installations. I have both 2.6 of Gold and Producer and 3.0 of Gold and Producer installed and Producer is the only one that asks for the dongle to be plugged in.

Jam:

I can only tell you about Codejammer MOTV, which I use.

Q1:

Yes, you can. For my daughter's wedding photo slide show, the music track was too short for the total number of slides, i.e. the images were "rushed". So I simply added the same mp3 music track again - making "two" tracks on the music tab, and used autosynch for the photos. Now the 60 images are just right for the total 5:55 min soundtrack. Nice default fade-in at the beginning and end for the black-screen text titles. You could of course use two, three, etc different tracks with the same effect.

Q2:

Whether the DVD slide show plays on your home theatre + TV setup depends largely on the player, and to an extent on the type of DVD disc burnt.

My ancient DVD player is very fussy about type of disc, usually only playing commercial DVD titles, and not home-burnt DVDs. But with some DVD-R discs it will play if the disc is burnt using the NTSC rather than the PAL option in MOTV.

My present player plays just about anything - DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, VCD, etc - no compatability issues. And I can even view the JPG files in the PHOTOS folder as a separate (non-musical) slide show. I think most recent players are pretty universal about the disc type, but you need to check it out for yourself. For the various DVDs I burnt, and sent off to families in UK, US, Greece, Brunei and Uruguay - I used DVD-R to maximise compatability chances, and burnt either PAL or NTSC versions for the different countries.

Overall I am pleased with MOTV - it does what I want reliably (very smooth, simple fades, pans and zooms of the Ken Burns style transitions). Personally I do not care for more gimmicky flash transitions; they do not age gracefully, in my opinion. "Less is more".

But I cannot comment on Compupic ProShow Gold - others may do so.

The best way of course is to download 30 day trials of each, and use them extensivly to see which you prefer.
