Hey folks,

My D70 and I were in a car wreck up in yellowstone and the camera's on/ off button was stuck in the on position. It would not budge. It still worked but I just couldn't turn it off without taking out the battery. Needless to say I forced it to the off position and snapped it right off. Now all I have is is a naked shutter button and worse is that it is stuck in the off position.

Any way, I got a d200 and haven't looked back. I was just wondering if there is a market for my broken d70? I'm not interested in getting it fixed cause I'm sure it would cost as much as a nice lense might. Do people use old cameras for spare parts, modifications etc? Just wondering if I can get anything for this pretty paperweight:)
regards,
Erik

You can always send it back to Nikon and get an estimate as to how much it will cost to fix. It might (or might not) be cheaper than you think. If you don't want them to fix it they will ship it back and all you are out is shipping.

Make sure you state your camera condition clearly so the buyers won't be confused.

To be frankly, your camera doesn't broken that much. I'd fix it and use it as back up secondary body.

Thanks guys!

I have no interest in fixing it as I have a d70s also as an "emergency" use camera. I am a hobbyist

who is just looking for a few extra bucks to justify my continuing expenses on this hobby:)
Thanks again for the advice:)

Can you please tell me how it got stuck in that position and you are still in decent shape to tell about it? I really want to hear about the accident. I am planning to go to Yellowstone in less than three weeks! Tell us what happened to you and the camera! I can't imagine that happening to the camera and then you walking away! I am glad you are o.k.

About a year ago on eBay, there was broken D70 for 'spare parts' which sold for about $250. However, you can't sell a used funtional D70 on eBay for more than $300-400 so I don't thing you will get much for it.

You can always send it in to Nikon and get it fixed. I doubt that I will be too expensive... You can get it fixed and give it to a relative or friend as a gift.

Thanks for your concern d70user. The accident happened last august on a flyfishing trip that we take every year. If you are familiar with yellowstone my grand cherokee hit marble sized hail just downstream from the fishing bridge area and we did a 360 and went head first into the woods. The car was totalled but those airbags really work. We didn't have a scratch on us. The camera was on the center console and just flew into the dash with the impact. I don't know how the on/off switch was impacted to cause it to jam. It looked just fine and lens was fine it just wouldn't budge, until I forced it and snapped it off:(

You'll love yellowstone in late sept, early oct. Elk are everywhere with their harems and if you are a fisherman the brown trout are running in the Madison and Gibbon rivers. It could be really cold or very pleasant that time of year. The mornings will always be cold. Don't skip the Tetons to the south If you have time. Great photo ops all over the place. Make sure to post some pics when you return! If you are camping I would recomment the Norris campgroung loop A. Every morning there are elk and bison roaming through the campground. Very photogenic little meadow with the gibbon river right next to the campground.
Anyway, I hope you have a great time!

Erik

I agree that you should not miss the Tetons this time of year if you are in Yellowstone. There are some marsh areas in the northern section of Grand Teton NP (Willow Flats area) that are loaded with moose. Just don't get too close! And that applies to the bison and elk also, especially this time of year.
