Ok.. I'm rather obsessed with this low light issue..I acknowledge it and that is the first step..;-)

I was playing with that tonight.. (geez my kids are patient) and finally got a shot I was sort of happy with.. I did ps out the background but I was happy with limited noise and I think pretty good exposure..I feel like a genius.. sigh ..

oh .. yeah.. I have to speak to him about that hat..

Thanks.. you guys are great..

Jody

Nice shot. The exposure is perfect. What was the shutter speed?

Hi Jody,

Very nice!!! Really love the lighting, and composition. The colors are also great, which is why to my red-green colorblind eyes, the hat fits right in. Great job. Curt A.

Hi Jody,

I think it's alweays a nice jog to figure out how things has to be done.

And I see you are moving into the right direction to get it all working.

Your son's left arm could have had a bit more light, as now his hand seems to appear out of nothing. (well if I set my monitor at very bright I can see his arm, but then the light on the other parts isn't so nice as you managed to get it)

Nice shot Jody...it's difficult isn't it. I went through the same thing. All I took were low light shots for a while..seemed like forever LOL

You got great results...now you know. Photography is exciting.

Nice shot, Jody. You have included only the essential elements. Keep this simplicity in mind. One of the most common characteristics of beginers is that they clutter images. Keep posting.

Very nice work Jody. I tend to agree with jacques regarding the absence of light on your son's arm. Otherwise, this is a great shot!!

Thanks Curt..

The hat fits in just everywhere since he got it on Christmas day.. :) He apparently likes it..
I'm finally starting to get this I think.. How exciting.. :)

Yes Jacques, I noticed that as well. It became worse when I painted out the background but I felt it needed to be done. The next time, I'll take that all into consideration as well.. I'm not sure what I could do about that except for leaving the background as it was or having the subject wear lighter clothing.. hmm.. Something else to work on.. :)

Thanks Jacques

My very best regards,
Jody

Thanks Larry..

Yes it does seem like it's taking forever to get this right..I feel like I'm getting there though..
Now I just need a tripod..:)

Jody

Thanks John..
I agree with Jacques as well.. Something else to keep in mind.. :)
It is so complex isn't it?

Jody

Thanks Larry..
I finally got a decent shot.... its been a while.. Hopefully it will continue..

Jody

Jody,

I surely like what you've done here. I agree with Jacques about the arm -- there is kind-of a disembodied hand look -- but it's not too distracting. I love the limited color palette and the lighting. Really nice work, Jody!

Jody,

I think the green color of the hat fit very well with the color of the fake leaves and the candle. Nice shot!

What an excellent photo and PS work, I really like this, yes I am getting fed up with noise also, need to make that giant leap in cameras. DL--Dog Leader 2100/B300

Good afternoon Jody,

Yep, we have to work with what is there. And, this is good work. Removing the background to have the hand balance the scene works just fine for me. I like it. We can live with the hat if he will continue to be patient :-).

Hi Jody,

Another quite good photograph from you. And yes, it certainly seems that you have a good handle on the light.

I've seen comments here saying that not seeing Dustin's left arm is bothersome. Hmm, I suppose that could be a bother, but I don't see it that way. When I visualize his arm in the picture, it is something of a distraction, and disrupts the fine composition.

Well, perhaps I see his arm in the wrong place, but I like the composition I see here as is.

Always my best,

Ed
