Want to install latest version of FinePix viewer

Dear Cassandra, It's so nice to be able to do something for you for a change. It isn't at all a simple question to answer in fact, but there is a link here with a version that should update without you having to reinstall
http://home.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/fine_l_c_w.html
It says it's for XP, but if you look carefully it also says:

"This updater can also be used for Windows 98/98SE/2000/Me users to update Exif Viewer, FinePixViewer 1.0 or 1.1 into FinePixViewer 2.0."

Otherwise, you can leave registry entries behind which can prevent an install if you just try to intall straight over the top. The best alternative would be to take everything out with the fuji uninstaller software and start from fresh.
I haven't tried this file myself mind you.
I presume your whizz kid son/grandson isn't around at the moment.
All the best for the new year
Ian
Should I uninstall the older version first or just install the
latest one over it?

Thank you Ian! :)

I haven't a clue how to do it but my husband is fairly knowledgeable. Our computer savvy son moved out and may not come by until later this weekend. I'll wait until hubby gets home and we'll follow your directions and see how it goes (Win 98).

The advise that I read on the site was that if you had the 6900z then you had the latest version and that the upgrade was only for earlier models ?

I have the 1.01 ver of finepix viewer which came on the CD rom with the 2600Z model. I've downloaded the updated versopn but am unable to instal it. Unlike other software updates i've downloaded this one doesn't instal itself on clicking. Can someone explain what needs doing? I browsed through C drive until finepix viewer was located in the file target area. Unpacking seemed to occur but when i check my finepix viewer properties Ver 1.01 is still showing.--'You'll never walk alone'

Hi Phil
Did you try the updater version I linked earlier or a 'standard' one?
Have you rebooted windows since installing?

It could be like I said, it reads the registry, thinks it's already there and doesn't install the new file. It'll install any file it thinks is different but not anything it thinks is the same. That's why it's better to start from clean.

Silly question perhaps but...

I have read many complaints about Windows XP and wonder why you would want to install a newer version of the viewer that seems to have been written for the XP OS. Are there any benefits in the XP version that would make it 'better' on Win 98?
Peter--www.irishstreet.com

Like Ian said the XP version an be used as an update to version 1.0 or 1.1.

Just download it and run it. The application will automatically remove the old version first.

Worked perfectly for me running Windows 2000

Well i successfully installed the latest version of finepix viewer, it looks almost identical to the 1.01 ver I replaced, can anyone tell me what the benefits of upgrading are?

I recall people complaining about every version of windows thats ever been released, until the next one then the old one improves.--'You'll never walk alone'

Hi Phil,

I had the same problem too. I had to look for the .exe file under My Documents, under this strangely named folder (I cannot reproduce the name because it seems to be in a different language or something). Anyway, inside this folder, there will be more single folders. Just keep on opening until at the end you find "updater.exe" and that will be the one that executes the update. Just click on it and it should work. If you can't find the folders I'm talking about just search for the .exe file.

Good luck!

Hi Phil

my question was really about the new version of the finepix viewer. Does it have any improvements over the old version? I suspect that only the drivers are different, to suit Windows XP. If the interface is better or the program has more funtions I would of course consider upgrading. Otherwise why bother?
Peter--www.irishstreet.com

Thanks Gigi I've installed it now, but my new question is the same as Peters, it looks virtually the same as the old version and i can't see any more facilities with it, whats the point of the upgrade apart from it might work better with XP? can anyone point out any benefits?--'You'll never walk alone'

The version of FinePix viewer that came with my 6900z is listed as 1.1. Version 2.0 (for Windows) came on the CD with my 2800z. I believe our son uninstalled 1.1 and then installed the newer version but for some reason it still reads version 1.1 in the program's help file and nothing appears to be any different. Still haven't tried updating yet.

Thanks GIGI..............you gave me the clue to install the new version and it is now updated......the file is in Japanese and i unzipped the updater into any empty folder..thats what I found and I followed your instructions...also noted the 6900z is still alive and well along with the 4900z!

I have installed the new version of the FinePix software because I am running Windows/XP and the package includes new drivers for XP. However, I do not see any new function in the viewer, so I'm inclined to advise those of you who aren't running XP to take a pass on the upgrade.

I think that the importance of this upgrade, at least to Fuji, can be gauged by the fact that it's only available on a Japanese web site (domain .jp) using a ZIP file that creates a Japanese-language directory. They're certainly not going out of their way to push it.
