it's a man/woman thing! ;^)Agreed. I've told Carlos the same thing a number of times, he's
not paying attention!!!!
It works for me.If you try to open the .orf file from Photoshop by clicking
File-open- it will not work...trust me

The fact is, Theresa, that I often encounter scenes that have a lot of dynamic range. If I develop the RAW files with ACR, I have much more control over how the image will come out and can frequently minimize blown highlights/blocked shadows by using the ACR adustments to set black and white points -- and indeed, you can go very sophisticated global adjustments using the curves . Last I looked at Oly Studio, all I could do was to shift the entire exposure to lighter or darker (while you can affect the black and white points fiddling with the exposure and contrast sliders in Studio, it's a real kludge method because the sliders aren't delinked enough). It is simply STUPID of Oly to provide a RAW converter that can't take full advantage of the raw format.RAW isn't a blanket permission to be a crappy photographer. RAW
will capture better detail and color and be more forgiving to
editing.
It's a shame there is so little concern around here for developing
skills instead of 'fix it in pp'.

I will agree that the converter in Oly Studio is primitive, but it is a good place to start for newbies. I am talking about using the Photoshop plug-in from Olympus to get ACR to recognize the .orf files and convert them properly. The fact is, Theresa, that I often encounter scenes that have a lotRAW isn't a blanket permission to be a crappy photographer. I understand that completely, but what I am reading more and more around here is 'who cares what camera settings you are using, just shoot RAW and recover it'. In my experience, it is much more time efficient to use your skill to shoot it as best you can, then tweak in pp rather than try to do a major overhaul. This isn't a matter of developing skills. All the skills in the
world can't change the dynamic range in a scene.
