Hello,

Recently my 5D has started to make the first shot black issue more and more often. It usually did it after leaving it for a week or so, but now it does it on a daily basis (24 hours are enough), and since my warranty expires in two months, I've been thinking about sending it to Sony.

I have read a lot about the Sony service in the USA, but anybody knows how it works in Spain?

By the way, I have read that a lot of people who had this issue, not long after repair, they had it again. Is there anybody who really got this issue fixed? or it's something I have to learn to live with?

At first I solved it cleaning the contacts... but now there's no way, it just keeps locking after a day without use and the message "err" appears at the viewfinder. After turning it off and on it works fine, but I'm starting to worry.

Thanks

I've often read these threads but it was never a concern as I didn't own the camera. Now I do and I will be keeping a cautious eye out for any problems.
I have had one thought, though, and it concerns the make of lens.

With my camera (7D) I acquired a Sigma 24-70 and it is, like so many Sigmas are apparently, very stiff in zooming. This causes the lens to shift slightly in its mount when twisting.

My question, therefore, is how many people suffering this issue have been using new Sigma (or any other stiff) lenses?

Perhaps the contacts may be designed for frequent changes but not such rubbing movement.
Comments please.

I'm in the same boat with my 5D. I always fire off one test shot every time I go out becuase I know it will probably be black. I dont get the error though. I turn it off and back on and all is well until the next day. Mine has been this way for at least 6 months but I'll probably try to send it in for warranty before it expires. If I knew for sure the problem would never get worse I could live with it but I'd hate to see it completely die after the warranty expires.

Had it happen with both KM and Tamron.

Sent mine in. Let you know how it turns out. Planning on selling it when I get it back. Don't like having a discontinued less than year old camera with unproven long term history. Send yours in before the warranty expires.

Yes... I'm going to send it... I've tried nearly everything I could: changing lenses, batteries, making sure there was no dust inside... well, since it's a shutter problem (when it does the black frame thing, the shutter does a strange noise), yesterday I shot a card full in continous mode, just to check if this solves anything. If it continues giving problems after this, I'll send it.

Thanks
