Adios Steve Irwin

I'm very curious, I have noticed every time someone mentions LORD, or God, or JC you get kinda worked up. Don't get me wrong, we're on the same page about the R word (eligion-ray), and to me it's encouraging to see people with that attitude in the US (if it weren't the most powerful nation in the world, and the R word weren't so important at the time to choose politicians, maybe it wouldn't matter as much). Hopefully not getting too personal, were you raised Catholic?
The LORD has spoken.
Can we skip the "judgement' melodrama?

An experienced man was a bit overconfidant, due to familiarity,
and got into a dangerous position relative to a wild creature.

This particular ray, on this particular occasion, did his
defensive thing (lash upward with stinger), and the consequences
were tragic for the human.

Very sad for all concerned parties, and a loss for
wildlife-promotion/protection, ...but a simple and understandable
event.

Mumbo-jumbo not needed to explain this incident.

I'd say if some irrational ideas about the world and how it works could suffer a silent death instead it would be much better. Then both BL and Dubya can kiss and make up.
don't you think. What's MJ got to do with this unfortunate
accident. I hope by responding to you post, you don't wish the same
for me. geesh
There are certain people in this world that DO deserve such a fate,
but to say MJ is one of them is crazy. Maybe if he said Bin Laden
or Dubya it would have gone down better.

I do feel for his family, but I can't help feeling that the "Dianna
Effect" is taking hold here.

... there is a huge difference here. Steve Irwin was an entertainer and notwithstanding his controversial antics, he did raise awareness and voiced a positive message. He started like any other normal human being, and his achievements, he had by himself.

I have no respect for the idea of "royalty". They may or may not be decent people, but why should anyone care? It's the freaking 21st century and we in the world are still teeming with medieval ideas, even in the developed countries. If you have $1000, it's easy to give $1. If you have millions that you didn't even earn, it's easy to start a charity. There is no more merit at all on Diana than on any guy giving a meal to a homeless person. The whole thing when she died was downright stupid, especially when Mo. Theresa died about the same time.

Maybe he has got too relaxed because it was just a simple ray and didn´t pay due attention to the sting. Maybe this ray was someway in a bad mood. Maybe his luck failed in the exact moment it couldn´t fail. The behaviour of a wild animal is never so predictable as a domestic one.

the forensic expert, said on TV last night that the poison wasn't so bad. The removing of the barb allowed blood to flood the sack around his heart not allowing his heart to move. He encouraged anyone with a knife or other similar wound to leave the instrument in and get to the ER. It's all very sad.

..almost certainly too personal for this forum.

Indeed. Our-nut vs. their-nuts is a poor choice to provide real leadership to the nations/world.

No. Episcopalian. Not effectively "Raised" as anything,,...taken to that(or SOME) church/Sunday-school etc., as a matter-of-course in middle class '40's-'50's USA.

Not really a factor in my current attitudes about religion-in-general(fanatics of any stripe in particular).

Bailed out about age 14,...first serious rebellion at 12 when realizing that I was being 'programmed' by peer/family expectations, to state as beliefs(!) things I did not believe. (Apostle's Creed for "Confirmation"-ceremony, etc.).

Integrity-conflict, ...taught that one's word should mean something, vs. taught what one was "supposed to " believe.

Dad was excellent example/teacher of thinking for oneself. Not a part of pressure forces at all. "Integrity first!"

Thanks, Dad! :-)

Un-reasoning "believers" a pet peeve. Thus the "worked-up" response at being fed any associated tid-bits here at DPR. Strongly believe in separation of church-and-me.

Given this attitude, it would be hypocritical of me to continue this discussion here. ;-)

Best wishes,

Larry

A real tragedy true but had he not instinctively pulled out the barb from his chest his chances of surviving would have been much greater.

Thank you for all you did for nature and for opening our eyes darkened by the so-called "civilisation".

A man is only as big as the dreams he dares to live.

Thanks for elevating the level of discourse here. It's people like you who make the world a better place. I'm sure Steve Irwin would agree.
What does this have to do with the Canon 1 and 5 series cameras?
What do most of these threads have to do with these camera's? Moron!

just in case, the Catholic thing was because I was, and I see this skeptical attitude mostly with the more orthodox, old religions.

What a great person to have to leave this world under such horrific circumstances. I feel for this family, his country and all the children around the world who looked up to Steve. He was truely a spirit that walked his own path by creating a perfect mix of education and entertainment for all who watched.
