E-100rs from BrandNewBuys?

Thanks everyone for your help, all my questions were pretty much answered, except a new one, why there was only a first look review of the E-100 on this sight?

Yeah, whatever, it was the US version and I was reading another thread about the E-10 so maybe that's where the blue came from, you can keep the box.
I purchased my e100rs from Brandnewbuys. The are an arm of
Returnbuys.
The camera was brand new with US warranty and in excellent
condition. SHipment was fast and I was very happy with the
purchase.

I recenty inquired about a E-110 from Brandnewbuys and received a
prompt response that the camera was a US version sealed in the
"blue" box. I fealt good because at least they answered my E-mail,
I can't say that about 90% of the other sellers out there.

The macro mode is definitely important, though there are digicams that have closer macro focusing abilities. Just a minor correction to your assumptions: the E-100 macro focuses 0.3 ft to 2.0 ft in wide, and 3.3 ft to 6.5 ft in tele.
I like Macro shots. I'd
hate to have to buy an add-on lense to take them. The E-100RS,
(and I think the UZI,) have closer focusing in Wide Angle than in
Tele, but Tele is probably only 10 inches. At zoom, that's pretty
good.

Thanks Ed, I really didn't want to give up my box ...

Good question, I keep waiting for the "real" review from Phil, but at this time it is pointless to wait being they are not in production anymore. But Steve's Digicams and other's have some very good reviews of the E-100RS.

Elmo,

I was thinking I should have pulled up the specs on the Macro on the E-100 before spouting off. But I was so jammed with pricing the Olys and Canons, that I would have thrwn my PC into bigger fits had I opened yet another window. :)

Thanks for the corrections. The E-100 specs don't bespeak a great Macro, when you think about it. No wonder there's such a market in auxilliary lenses!

:)

Rick,

Yeah. I've heard some of the reviewers had used a micro-drive in their E-100s. But, I suppose if you break the camera, (or even run it out of power soon,) there might be problems getting it fixed if there's a way the company could figure out what you did. I think the power was the concern over that drive in the E-100. But can't you get stronger AA's than the 1600's?

I think the Pro 90 has a longer start-up time. It might also have to do with what mode it starts up in. The added hassle with slower focusing, or missed focusing makes me wonder if I'd have to manually focus a lot. With wildlife, though, I'd be assured that "Infinite would suffice.

I can live without the hot shoe, too. But, still...My wife has an EOS, and I think it's got the right flash, too....I just looked, and it's a 300EZ flash. Is that compatable with the Pro 90??

Having maybe three sets of batteries, (and if necessary, a DC-AC converter, to run the charger while traveling,) I think the batteries could last. They do last longer than the UZI or E-100, according t9o all the write-ups I've read.

If nothing else, my wife will be pleased that I'm not doing my usual impulse buy, here. I did come "that close" to snatching up a Pro 90 on E-bay, until my Netscape crashed, when teh auction was getting close. But the bidding had already shot to $800, and there's a couple sites that sell it for closer to $730.

I'll keep reading, and perusing teh good and bad things brought up on these forums.

Later,
Steve in Fairbanks
OK lets see what they are saying .... ahh they seem to be a nice
group over there also ..

Microdrive , Sure, you can use one in a E-100 i've heard ...
Actually I was lookin at yahoo auctions last night for one, some
one here said the had gotten a great deal on one ...

I saw some disscussion about startup time? I just turned mine on
and was ready to shoot in 2 seconds, is that what the refferance
was?

Hot Shoe, yeah, that'd be nice, but I just got this cool bracket
handle deal, so now I look like I know what im doing ....

In looking at Phil Review , it seems like a nice camera, from what
I am speed reading, it's about the same camera, larger cdc but that
battery deal, if you were traveling, and the camera batterys go
dead, can you pop into wallgreens and pick some up?

I still think the e-100 or dare I say, UZI is better ... but the
bottom line is, only you can decide what would work better for you

John,

It sure makes the decision move toward the E-100. All the stuff you mentioned, (especially about the good looking * X 10s,) plus the great looks of the sleek black cam.

Decisions, Decisions,

I had bought a E-100RS from Return Buy for $550. a few weeks ago.
No problems with the deal, Brand new camera - - works great! My
reasons for the E-100.
1) dual media cards - I just got back form vacation 150 shots on
one 128Mb CF card. Can transfer images between cards in camera. CF
cards are available up to 1 gig.
2) Panarama stiching can be done through GF software.
3) I think my 8X10's look real good.
4) Pre capture along with 15FPS excellant for a $500. camera.
I'm real happy with my choice, there is a learning curve - - not
every shot will come out as you think they should, I have fat
fingers and push the wrong buttons at times. All in all I wouldn't
have bought anything but an E100.

Recently bought a 2100 for $499+9%=$522.11 and saw the E100 for
$479+$15(shipping)=$494 from BrandNewBuys on E-bay, and I can't
have both.
I was wondering, 1. if anyone has dealt with this vendor as I think
I would like to return the UZI and get the RS and, 2. I have read
through threads which seem to indicate the trade off between the
two is that the RS gives up some pixels but gains in supplied
software and features?
I am really trying to find out about the vendor(I did not see them
listed in resellerratings) and the second question is not to start
a debate about a subject that has been dicussed at length, but
instead to find out if I have missed something in my assement of
the cameras differences. Thanks for any input in advance.
1. How do I buy this $500 E100RS ?
2. I did a search on eBay---nothing !
3. I tried to pull up returnbuys.com---nothing !
4. I tried to pull up brandnewbuys.com---nothing!

Browse catagories - Photo - Digital Cameras - Olympus - Type" E-100RS" in the search block and look for the "Brandnewbuys" logo on the left side of the page.

Try this link if it works

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=olympus+e100&ht=1&ebaytag1=ebayreg&CATEGORY0=625&SortProperty=MetaEndSort

if not go to e-bay and search for "olympus e-100"

Theres 5 right off the bat, maybe if you scroll down, you can find one cheaper

If theres a Fry's Electronics close to you, you might be able to still find them in the 490 range

Here's a link to Frys online store

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/2850354 they'r still listed for sale, $549 now, maybe they are cheaper in the store if ones local for you ....

Fry's Electronics is selling E-100RS for $447 + tax until 1/8/02. I just bought one myself.

Minh--Thank you very much,Minh

Minh,

Is that for REAL?

I checked the OUTPOST.COM site, and they're still listed at $549.00. (I did just find them for $479 at Half.Com, though.)

If you can, would you check to see if that's a walk-in price, where you can only get it in the store?

If it's something I can call for, I'd love a phone number for Fry's, and I'll spend some $ to call long distance to order it. I've done that for the only CompUSA inn Alaska, which is in Anchorage. They've been very helpful, even correcting shipping screw-ups.

Thanks,
Steve in Fairbanks

Is there a current ad regarding this? When I called yesterday, 1/02, I was quoted 649 for the camera. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

1. I'm quite sure Fry's doesn't do mail order.
2. But imagine my consternation for having rushed into committing myself
at brandnewbuy only to see the posting about Fry's. I was planning to go
to Fry's tomorrow!
3. Everyone. Can I get out of my committment with brandnewbuy. I
haven't given them my credit card number yet.
4. Let's see. According to Business Law 101 that I took back in 1950, if I
withdraw my offer before they accept my offer, I should be in the clear.
5. I'm going to send them an email right away.
6. Uh oh. There is a little white envelope in the lower right corner of my
screen. Bet it's an automated acceptance of my offer.
Thanks,

Can the pro 90 do this?

Joe ...
God. This is so tough. There are people in the Canon Talks Forum
that are almost persuading me to go to the Canon Side of the force.
They've eradicated most of my concerns over my perceived
shortcomings in the Pro 90IS, and make it look very appealing with
that extra resolution.

Anyone care to persuade me otherwise?

Can the Pro 90 throw high and outside?

Just kidding! Sweet series. What software did you use for the animated .gif?

VG

Minh,

E-Bay has rules for such things as cancelling bids. It's a pain to find that there's a lower priced item on the very same day you make a commitment at teh higher price. I'm ready for that. Only with me, it usually takes several weeks, to a few months before I find out that's happened.

Reason I asked about Fry's is because on the OUTPOST.COM site, it shows it's associated with Fry's. Usually, mail order carries the bigger breaks than the brick & mortar facilities.

Oh well. I've seen "store specials" at various places, so it may be something like that.

Good luck with the price. Don't mess a good reputation with E-Bay up over a few dollars, though. You never know what you'll need from them at some future time.
