On second thought, Sean why don't you contact Janneman who can contact Mike and you guys can arrange something for a couple of days. I can't imagine this ban will last that long. I mean there are like 6 threads about this now. At this rate we will have the forum full of Free Mouse threads by Monday. Phil's bound to recognize something is up.Isn't Mike the host of this month's Pentax Challenge?!?! We should
be starting now, right?
Uh-oh...
Hi alinla,
- Petitioning Jessie Jackson to intervene in Mousehill's oppression
Can';t be the reason, lots of MIkes posts and threads remainI certainly think it's crazy to ban Mike Mousehill of all people.
If there was anyone who deserved a simple e-mail asking to stop
whatever it was instead of just getting banned right away then it's
him. But he did break the rules of the forum in a pretty flagrant
way over multiple threads and several days:
"Commercial advertising - Commercial website linking or advertising
is not allowed, if you wish to advertise on the site contact us.
This rule includes webmasters of other digital photography websites
promoting themselves on the forum. You will be banned and have all
of your messages removed."
--What Mike did was in essence advertise for another commercial
website here. This is something Phil expressly prohibits, whether
we agree with it or not, it's his site.
I'm sure Mike will be back soon, but I too think this banning stuff
is a bit overboard sometimes. The forum is generally a really nice
place though, wonder if the two are related...

Sure it can. Just because Phil threatens to erase all posts doesn't mean he actually does it in all cases. Now that actually would have been way overboard. Can';t be the reason, lots of MIkes posts and threads remain

Mike was in essence posting marketing for that other site here
repeatedly. It may not seem that way (all he wanted was a vote) but
that's exactly what that contest is designed to do - send visitors
to their site. It's called viral marketing. Phil's forum was thus
hosting their marketing campaign, and he has put a stop to that.
Rightfully so, if you ask me. Why should Phil host someone elses's
marketing? Just a shame it would happen to Mike, and that
enforcement had to be a ban.
-Matt
With all due respect, banning a guy like Mike for this infraction is like swatting a fly on the baby's head with an axe; a simple cease-and-desist email coupled with erasure of the offending thread would have accomplished the desired result without all this stir and commotion. "Let the punishment fit the crime," as the old G&S ditty goes...Mike was in essence posting marketing for that other site here

Phil and his merry men should look carefully at the posts of the
person complaining; in many cases they would find that the
complainer has a dubious history of his/her own. In this case, it
appears that our old friend George TR, who has been repeatedly
banned under his original name and various pseudonyms, is the
complainer. Way to go George!! (Blowing big raspberry...)

Couldn't agree with you more, awesome (and gruesome!) analogy. ;-)With all due respect, banning a guy like Mike for this infraction
