Oh no, not again, a BAN: Mike Mousehill.....

I just found this message in my mailbox:

Hoi Jan,

Het ziet er naar uit dat Phil (en ..... ?) het nodig vonden mij te
bannen van het forum. Jammer, maar helaas.....

Doe ze de groeten van me :-)

Drama in optima forma, who needs to watch a soap when everything is happening here!

I saw that voting-post drawing some attention from non-pentax people, maybe they thought this was prohibited.. Sad, if you don't agree then just don't vote.

Ik twijfel er niet aan of je bent zo weer terug, spaar maar wat mooie macro's op!

Should Phil ban me for my post "Vote early - vote often?"

Apparently that is not the reason as almost all threads where he
asks for support are still there....
I just proved that....
I don't think Phil removes threads for this reason.

The only times I have seen Phil remove threads is when the forum is discussed.

BTW - number one in the copetition is now a lousy picture of an unsharp girl with pink glasses. A pity if Mike was banned for this phony competition's sake.

I know you have to reserve the right to ban people.

But could you consider the (well-used metaphor) of a 'sin bin' instead of a dissmisal?

What I mean is, like ban for a week, or a month if its serious, not the equivalent of a sending off in soccer (association football)? which sport, incidentally, would also benefit from the 'sin bin' type of rule.

Just a thought.

Hi (Mile) Mousehill & All,

It's truly unfortunate when outstanding contributors such as Mousehill (among others) gets banned...especially in light of the many, many useless and sometimes hostile posts that circulate. This is especially true on some of the other forums and these hostile posts go on without so much of an eyebrow being raised. It may be hard at times, but a bit of an in-dpeth focus should first be put on the person they are banning...which just might reveal that they are banning a valuable contributor.....which is the essence of why a site such as this exists in the first place. I'm glad to see Mike has such great support!

Hope one more feedback would help to speed up the processing so Mike would come back to us soon :)

But have you seen this great picture of the ducklings (see link) you can vote on it, it is a sort of competition i think.

of course you can also vote for other pictures but i won't do that. this one is the best.

I certainly think it's crazy to ban Mike Mousehill of all people. If there was anyone who deserved a simple e-mail asking to stop whatever it was instead of just getting banned right away then it's him. But he did break the rules of the forum in a pretty flagrant way over multiple threads and several days:

"Commercial advertising - Commercial website linking or advertising is not allowed, if you wish to advertise on the site contact us. This rule includes webmasters of other digital photography websites promoting themselves on the forum. You will be banned and have all of your messages removed."

What Mike did was in essence advertise for another commercial website here. This is something Phil expressly prohibits, whether we agree with it or not, it's his site.

I'm sure Mike will be back soon, but I too think this banning stuff is a bit overboard sometimes. The forum is generally a really nice place though, wonder if the two are related...

I think the most powerful message to Phil would be to disappear from this forum.

Don't forget; this forum is built up by users. A forum is just as powerful as its available users ;)

to me, all this bans-story seems like kindergarten of phil an crew.
