I have a Canon 20D and looking to get a fisheye lens. All 3 of my lenses are Canon. I'm almost set on the Canon Fisheye Lens. How does that compair to other fisheye lenses?
Thanks,
Jeremy

The Canon and Sigma 15 mm fisheyes are considered to be close in optical quality.

As far as getting really wide, you should consider the Sigma 8 mm or the Peleng 8 mm.

I have the Canon 15 mm and Sigma 8 mm and would recommend aither of these two, depending on how wide you want to go on the 1.6x crop.

Perhaps check this out: http://www.acapixus.dk/photography/panotools.htm

Thanks for the feedback. I want to go as wide as possible. I'm mainly shooting narrow alleys, tall skinny buildings... the 'rounded' effect is desirable. Do you still get the same effect with the Sigma 8mm? I know the lenses will be affected by the 1.6X crop, but plan on upgrading my camera in the near future. I love the quality of Canon's lenses, but I'm not opposed to other brands. I would go with an EF~ S lens, but there limited with which cameras you can use them with.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Here is the output from Canon 300 and Sigma 8mm fisheye.

2 cents - I use the Sigma 15 on my 20D and love the results. Will be really nice to one day add to a FF or even 1.3 crop if a new 1.3 arrives next year.

It is well built, from all reviews on a par with the Canon and cheaper than the Canon (my only non Canon lens) and it really performs.

It's the only way to get a full-frame fisheye on a Canon crop camera and it has the additional flexibility to act as a regular ultra-wide at it's middle and long ends. The Oly 10-17 (same lens) gets pretty good reviews.

Hmnnn ... in case you by "regular ultra-wide" means rectilinear wide angle I am not so sure that is correct. I think it is fisheye projection all the way from 10 to 17?

Yes. What I meant was, it's not so wide that the "fishiness" is obvious on all subjects. For example, this was taken with a 15mm fisheye on a 1.6 crop camera:

Also, relatively narrow fisheye shots can be pretty effectively de-fished, and therefore made to be rectilinear:

Yep. It's a great lens, even on full-frame.

beautiful shot (very apt for a fish eye).

Awesome for a fe. Did you stumble upon the scene and apply the lens
or did you seek out the scene because of the lens?
I was in the aquarium so I used the lens on an appropriate subject.

Isn't it pentax and not oly which has the 10-17 currently?

I am very happy with my Sigma 8mm f/4 EX DG Fisheye for the Canon 20D. The 15mm Canon will not provide a true fisheye look and feel on a camera like the 20D with a 1.6 crop factor.

Here are some examples of shots taken with this lens on my 20D:

My aquarium shot was on full-frame, in case you missed that.
