FX07 User Review

Hi - and thanks a lot for the link.

I myself bought the FX07 today and started with some first shots. I try to test against my old reliable and beautiful, but terrible slow Canon G5.

The colours are just perfect and the noise in 100 absolutely absent. The other ISO's start adding some noise, but not comparable to the FX01.

After comparing these first shots I found out, that "Normal" setting for Saturation/Sharpness is great in high light situations, while in lower light situations I tend to the "Natural" seetings. I don't like the "Vivid" setting due to the too strong "painting" effect - even if you only see it in 100% crop and not in typical print sizes.

For the moment I share the conclusion of anotzher author:

The FX07 gives very good images out of the cam, that in most cases doen't need PP,

while FX01 needs PP more often - but at the end could produce even better results.

I don't have the time to PP all my shots.

I'm very happy with the FX07 so far - especially the perfect lens they've built in

Regards

Markus

The reviewer mentions that his FX07 uses a blank shot to reduce noise in nighttime photos. Does the FX01 do this as well?

Bearing that in mind, it's a pity he didn't mention one of the most interesting aspects... whether you can zoom in/out while recording?

That would be interesting to know about the FX07/FX50/LX2

Kind Regards

Brian
The guy that has written that review needs a camcorder not an FX07.

Yes, in "Starry Sky" mode.I think also in "night scene" mode as well, but i'm not sure.
From megapixel.net:

"Equipped with a dark frame noise reduction system, after every long exposure the camera automatically captures a second exposure of the same length without opening the shutter, and then uses the noise gathered over the course of the second exposure to reduce the noise in the first exposure."

He did:

"5. In a similar vein, I would prefer more control over the movie mode - quality, frame rate and aspect ratio combinations (how about a World's first 2.35:1, 24 fps 'Cinamascope' mode? After all 30fps is a US/Japenese TV standard, not a movie standard) AE lock, sound level auto/manual level control, 'film effect' filter, use of zoom during a movie etc.."

That's interesting, I would have thought that, as with the TZ1, the latest generation of (Venus III equipped) cameras would also allow zooming during video recording...

That's a shame, but to be honest the sound is so terrible, video recording is pretty pointless imho.

Thanks for spotting this moufas :)

From the review:

"...my experience is that O.I.S. has much greater value by giving an extra 2 to 3 stops of exposure latitude to play with under anything but ideal lighting conditions.{...}or put another way, a small sensor with O.I.S. can have the same noise performance as a sensor up to 8 times as big."
is he joking or something?

" ...'Intelligent ISO' mode automatically alters the ISO up to 800 to obtain a higher shutter speed when there is a fast-moving object near the centre of the fame. There are two classic scenarios where this is of great value:{...1st scenario...}and two when you want to capture an unexpected moment at zero notice in less than ideal lighting conditions..."

I think that the "second scenario" is just autoiso. Unless that "unexpected moment" is a moving object. I don't get him maybe.

"7. Take away the mode 1 and 2 O.I.S. selection for still photography. It adds needless complexity when mode 2 is so much more effective."
Mode 2 doubles shutter lag,unlike Mode 1.
Definitely not a professional review.

Totally agree.
Sorry for multiple posts.

What's a shame? The fact that it doesn't allow zooming when recording?

You're welcome.

Made my first shots - don't care about the content - have been test images.

Here are some examples - no PP no NR:

First Macro ("Standard" Mode)

Try turning the mode dial to playback (green arrow).
I currently have the LX1, does not seem to be a way to close the lens without turning off the unit or waiting for stand by. Curious if it is any different on the 07
