Just saw a posting on rec.photo.digital about a really low price for a Lexar 48MB - 8x
Compact Flash USB card for $ 44.95 at Buycomp.com. I went to the Buycomp site

and searched for Lexar and sure enough there it was - item number 10247111. It is

listed as on backorder, but I figured it is worth a shot in case they ever come in. I know
we went through a lot of newsgroup space a while ago when Buycomp misquoted a

price on a discontinued Sandisk 40 MB card and couldn't deliver them all. But a few

lucky souls did get a good deal. So before they change the price or pull the link you
might want to check it out for yourself.

WOW. Thanks for the pointer. I placed my order as well. The worst that can happen is nothing. You forgot to mention that this is actually the "jumpstart" version that comes with the USB cable. YAHOO. I could have a USB enabled 950!

Thanks JoAnne!

I placed an order for 2 cards - we'll see what happens.

Maybe we'll all get lucky!

The list price on these from Lexar is $179. I suspect a data entry clerk may have omitted a "1" in front of the "44.95". A dollar a meg for Lexar is a very good deal. With a jumpshot cable, it's a great deal.

Will the jumpshot version CF card work in a regular Sandisk (Parallel) card reader? My PC does not have USB, But if the card will work, I don't need the jumpshot cable.

Just ordered one. Do they have the option of claiming these are "forever backordered" once they realize their mistake?

Thanks for the tip! I hope my order for 5 of these babies arrives! This would almost double my money on Ebay! Surely they won't process this order, but I hope so.
Hmmmm I wonder what is connected to the end of the cable?

I caught wind of that on rec.photo.digital too. What a SMOKIN' deal! I don't know if the "8x" holds any real world performance advantage, but at that price who cares?! I jumped on it "like stink on sh*t" for two cards! I sure hope they deliver. If thay don't, oh well. If they do...it's an incredible deal.
We'll see,
hickster

I see that this comes with its own USB cable. But, will it work with a card reader?

You're right...That's a great buy, but it's a long shot. Buy.com's supplier DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THEM ON ORDER from Lexar yet!! So if they materialize, it's no telling when.

Yes it will! Lexar includes a USB driver in the CF card that works with it's jumpshot cable. But the CF card functions like any other CF card and can be read by other readers fine. I have a 64MB one and use it with the jumpstart cable and my PCMCIA adaptor all the time. The jumpshot cable is great....and FAST!!!!!

It's worth putting in an order (as I did for two CF's)... According to the site, "Your credit card will not be billed until your product ships.".

Thanks so much for the heads-up - That's a fabulous deal :)

Uh oh... a credit to my account??!! This just might be too good to be true. In other words if they don't honor the price I can just cancel the order and get my money back? I'll have to buy something else from them? They do say the card is not billed until the item ships, so if it never ships then what? $44.99 was a incredible deal for this card, but no deal if it can't be had.

The plot thickens...

Rick,

"Credit your card" means money goes directly into your Visa account (or whatever). You don't have to spend the refund anywhere. It's just exactly the opposite of billing your card: money goes to you.

So nothing whatever to lose. Except for some poor guy at buy.com who may be in trouble...
