Hi quick question - will the DSC-V3 work with PWs? I tried quickly to set it up the other day for some product shots no luck but I didn't have much time so I switched to another camera. Is there a way to get this camera to work with Pocket Wizards - I thought with the hot shoe it wouldn't be an issue.

Any help much appreciated.
cheers

There is no reason it should not work.
Set up the V3 for external flash and red eye flash off.

The slaves may need to be set up to ignore the pre-flash, if it is still being generated.

Hi thanks for the reply.

would you mind explaining the steps? I don't have an external flash for the V3 so I am not sure of the settings - I am looking in the manual for the V3 and it talks about plugging the flash in the ACC accessory jack? Is that necessary with the PW or does it just run off the hot shoe?

thanks

The ACC is for Sony flashes (and compatible) only.

The Sony flash will automatically connect with the V3 and disconnect the built-in flash. For non-Sony flashes you need to tell the camera that an external flash is attached through a setting in the menu. This will disable the built-in flash and close the center pin in the hot shoe.

ahh i understand thanks Tod - would you happen to know what that setting is to tell it an external non-sony flash is?

Thanks so much!

Actually the V3 has to be manually told that there is a flash, even
if it is the Sony flash.

I know this because I have the V3, and the HVL-F32X

In the Set Up menu, there is an option for External or Internal
Flash. Just change to External. Hey presto!

Hmm, not on my V3. All I do is attach the F32X and the camera automatically recognizes it. No delving into menus at all.

Same here, I never have to change the setup option from Internal to External when I use my F32X. The V3 automatically detects the F32X when mounted and the internal flash did not even "flip".
