I'm planning to buy an FX01 in the next few days and i would like to have some opinions about the accessories i'm going to order(potentially). So,here is my shopping list:

1)A Twinmos 2GB 150x SD card.Do you know any compatibility issues about the 150x and/or Twinmos with the FX01?

2)A Hama supplementary battery (supposed to be compatible with DMC-FX01, DMC-FX8, DMC-FX9, DMC-LX1).Again compatibility or warranty issues?
3)An "IDEAL WC POD" tripod.Cheap and small, just like i want it to be.

4)The "official" leather case for FX01.Any comments about the necessity of a hard case maybe?

And finally a question:Do all the 2,5' LCD screens have the exact dimensions?I want to buy a cover to protect the screen from scratches and i found one for 3' screens.Should i buy one of those and cut it to fit exactly to FX01's screen or should i look for a 2,5' cover?
Any comments appreciated,thanks in advance.

All I can tell you about is the case.

I have the official leather FX01 case and recommend it, it's fairly tough on the edges (its construction is essentially a band of leather with side panels stitched in.) The stud which holds the cover closed is slightly magnetic, which is nice. The interior is a kind of soft felt. A nice snug fit, the camera's loop strap comes out of the gap below the cover so you can hold it. I don't see the need for a hard case (unless you're in the habit of dropping them), as in many cases (if you'll excuse the pun) they massively increases the size of what is a very small camera.

I wouldn't bother - the screen is fairly robust and won't get scratched at all with normal use, just remember that if you put the camera down, put it on the lens side (which sounds slightly strange). I've had my FX01 for a few months and the screen is unmarked. The official case is exactly the right size, so that any screen cover would get caught and start to peel off every time you took it out or put it in, I reckon.

Enjoy your FX01! See my page below for a gallery.

Thanks a lot for the info,i was wondering if that case is so nice as it seems.
It should worth the -few indeed- extra money.

About the screen cover, a friend has recently bought a new Olympus Mju 700 (2,5 inch lcd) and had it scratched from the first week.. later she bought a screen cover.. so think about it, especially if you have zip pockets like her..
Thanks again for the info!

PS:I tried to enter your page and i couldn't.Have tried in the past also with no result.(Opera,Firefox and Explorer even with firewall off).

In general, the Panasonic cameras are apparently compatible with 150x but do not operate any faster than for a true 66x card (such as Sandisk Ultra II).
Don't know about the brand you mentioned.

Thanks BillZM,i think i will go for the "official" case, since it's available in the same store with all the rest (no extra shipping costs) in a fairly attractive price(18euros,Pixmania).It's leather after all.

I wouldn't think of an extra battery -even though many highly recommend one-, but i found that Hama for 11euros..

That 150x sd card is cheaper than any other 2GB sd i've found (apart from the 133x Twinmos which is 3euros cheaper.. )

When i was searching for an sd card,my main concern was to be fast (for unlimited burst), and i came across this one which is fast, cheap and vast.
Twinmos is a fairly well-known brand here(Greece).

I was curious if 150x cards comply strictly with the standards or not and if anyone has any experience with twinmos.

I usually put it back in the case after shooting but last week was keeping it briefly in my coat pocket, making sure the interior was soft. Take care and you'll be fine.

Smugmug is down temporarily for maintenance - try again shortly and it should be up.

Can you post a picture or point me to a link of the official case you mention? I recall there being several Panasonic cases for the FX series; I wouldn't mind picking up a leather one too if there's a style I like.

You'll like the FX01. It's fun and takes some great pictures.
Here's an earlier posting with some beautiful shots from another
user in Greece.

Wow!I was in Santorini last month for a weekend and didn't have a digital camera with me.. Really a pity.. FX01 will be actually my first 'personal' digital camera (till now was using brother's and girlfriend's Cybershoots). I'm pretty sure i'll love it and never use again 35 to 38mm lenses.

so that 'PS-SFX01' case is made from imitation leather, while the 'PS-HFX9K' from genuine.Nice info BillZM.I did a little search and found some more.
PS-HFX9K red:

Can you suggest me any reliable U.S store that ships in Europe? Amazon says "Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S."

There is a small chance i go for the genuine leather case, but i don't know if i will be able to find it here in Europe.

Tamrac 5680 is a perfect fit and has a pocket for another card or battery. Cost is $10 or less. Others on this forum are using it too. I've had very good luck with the SanDisk Ultra II USB card, which can be inserted directly into the USB port of your computer for very fast download. While the Panasonic battery has a very long life I did buy a spare just in case, which is a Power2000 CGA-S005. It is completely compatible, charges quikly and lasts a long time. Battery Barn had the best price. By the way, I got the card from newegg.

It's practical, but definitely not as elegant as the Panasonic leather case(both genuine and imitation).Probably i'll buy the 'imitation leather' case which is available in the same store with all the other stuff too.

I already have a card-reader,so it won't be any real help(the usb connection).

Comparatively with the Twinmos, the Sandisk Ultra II will cost me the double for 2GB, and i don't believe it will be faster.I was wondering about compatibility with the FX01, but checked an old Twinmos compatibility report and it was compatible with FX9,FX8,FX7,FX1 and possibly with every other Panasonic released till then. So, i believe it's Ok.

To be honest,i wouldn't use your supplementary battery,as it doesn't seems to be fully compliant with FX01. What i mean is that whereis FX01's original battery is 3,7V 1150mA(like Hama), Power2000 is 3,7V 1300mA! Well, you know better of course.

Thanks for your reply jkwex, it's great to have a second opinion before you buy something. Especially when that 'something' is an FX01 with its accessories!

The Tamrac 5204 is the same exact size as the 5680 (fitting the FX cameras perfectly, except the new FX50), with slightly different styling, but essentially the same case. I'm not sure I'd use the word elegant(?), but they're well-made and attractive, especially if you remove the logo.
