More FX07 shots

Uuups - that's looking much better now :-)

Especially the comparison shows that in standard outdoor cases the FX07 is better in 800 than FX01 in 400.
In general the FX07 images are much better - the FX01 are too soft.

Thanks for sharing these.

Wow, it sure is a mixed bag. In that night scene at ISO 100 I can see the sloppiness of the NR on the part of the building just around the corner from the temperature sign. Even though overall it looks good enough at maybe 50% of the original size.

I noticed the brightly lit part of that same building, just above the white light glow, is very good all the way to ISO 400 or 800 (again, at around 50% size).

But that strong NR effect which garbles most edges anyhow really shows up at around that one corner of the building!
The comparison with FX01 definitely helps the FX07 look good.

I'm just wondering what the ratio of good to bad photos a person might get after seeing the night scene.

The FX01 shots look poorly executed somehow. Soft, poor contrast. Not sure what they've done, but I've never seen such bad FX01 shots. I don't think this comparison is legitimate.

I was speaking of the daytime outdoor shots of a building with a tree; these don't appear to be on the site now; instead there is a series of shots (well-lit indoors and nighttime) from FX07 only, if you click around looking for FX07, then if you click some more, you'll find a similar series of well-lit indoors and nighttime shots from the FX01. The scenes are different but similar. These FX01 images look normal; but the daytime building and tree shots didn't look normal, like maybe they dropped the FX01 camera and damaged the lens or shot the pics poorly or something. At any rate, not reading Japanese, it's impossible to figure out what they've done and whether to trust the results.

Oh, I see now there were two links provided by the OP. It's the second link (from a different site altogether) with the direct comparison which looks suspect to me, as I've never seen FX01 pics this bad. The pics don't open correctly in my browser; I see only the upper left portion of the pic and the tree is showing low contrast, perhaps lens flare or something?; the FX01 pics are all at f5.6 while the FX07 pics (those with exif data) are at f8, but this wouldn't tell the whole story. I wonder if we're seeing some lens flare here; there's something wrong at the top of the images especially, even visible in the thumbnails, perhaps the sun was hitting the lens (even though the pics were only 8 minutes apart)?; or a smudge on the lens?; at any rate, these don't appear normal.

Th NR can be pretty bad. Looking at the night photos, people have lots of NR and look fuzzy, while in th FX01 they look fine.

I wonder what's up with the FX07 and the rendition of color, which I am assuming is part of VEIII. Looking at the soda/coffee machine, the reds, are well, red, while in the FX01 it looks orange. It also seems less likely to overexposure, since the Japanese text on the white sticker is readable in the FX07, but no amount of PP I did could salvage it on the FX01.

Apparently the fx07 max f-stop is f8 at 28mm. The fx01 max at 28mm is f5.6. Wonder why they changed that. What is the fx07 max f-stop at 102mm? f16?

Very interesting, also the comparison to the FX01 on both pages.

And my personal result is that the FX07 is the better cam for most of fotographic situations - i will go for the FX07 tomorrow.

I think that you are totally right! That kitamura guy is a salesman!Or company if you prefer. If you go to his home page you will realize why this site is "kitamura.co.jp" and not "kitmura.org" or ".com" or ".net"...
And how lucky we all feel that he sells that new and expensive digital camera?
I wouldn't have thought of that BillZM,thanks for the brain!Really!

On the other hand the first mentioned site is really helpful:
http://sanfurawa.seesaa.net/article/22903411.html
And also has a review for the FX01:
http://sanfurawa.seesaa.net/article/14597094.html

IMHO,i believe that the FX07 is one step forwards as for the 'out of camera' results and two step backwards as for the 'out of noise ninja/neat image' results.

What i mean,is that although FX07's images look much better at 'fit-to-screen' size, with noise really vanished, they look terrible in full-size!
NR at iso100 in FX07 is stronger than NR at iso400 for the FX01!

If you believe that i overstate take a look at the second set (the downtown night scene).Download the FX07's iso100 image and try to find the bike under the stairs of the bridge. Now check FX01's iso400 image and look at the center of your screen the people waiting in the crosswalk to pass the street. You can clearly see a bicyclist and descry his jacket.I believe that the difference is impressive. All you need is neat image with FX01's profile(available in neat image site),or noise ninja and with 3 clicks you have all the detail with no noise.

Also,as i have mentioned in an older post FX07 wipes some detail in daytime shots:

PS:Don't wan't to provoke,i said IMHO...

According to the specs the FX07 does indeed go to F16. This might be great for macros if you can find a way to force it (find the right scene mode). On the other hand, it might have fairly poor optical quality compared to a more reasonable aperture.

It looks like there's condensation (fog) on the lens. That's likely the problem.

Good point! That may be what happened. They ran out from their airconditioned building and started snapping away! Maybe...
Certainly the pics don't match anything I've seen from the FX01.
A poorly executed comparison, I think.

it seems many of you on this forum think the fx07 will not be as quality as the fx01, is this the case?

Agreed... I would wait for Simon's review if possible.

Also, remember Venus III gives better video capability (zooming during recording?) over the FX01.

I think that, with Venus III's more aggressive NR there is a stronger case for RAW / zero processed jpegs, to allow for out-of-camera PP - I believe dpreview were championing this idea with Panasonic recently, although we've heard no follow up to this.

Kind Regards

Brian
Let's be patient en wait for the professional reviews!

i bet my new FX01 that Simon would say it's worse...

i would like to see a review (meaning dp-review) for these new models before i place my order for the FX01, but i'm pretty sure i won't regret it, even if i see a "Highly Recommended". Clearly, the FX01 with the proper noise-reduction software wins in low light. In every other aspect we know it's great, hence -for me- the winner.
