Canon dislikes dpreview?!

Canon seems incapable of keeping up with recent developments in the
digital medium format sector . In 2008, I might have switched to
medium format + a rangefinder system with exchangable lenses
2008 may be a good mark for making the switch, because you may have (without knowing your situation) to save up the money for 2 years to be able to afford it.

Recent developments? Other than true 16bit conversion what do they have? The have Bayer masks on their sensor, less high ISO capabilities, are much slower due to huge file sizes.

I know that MF backs deliver ultimate quality - great smoothness, noiseless shadows, and 11-12 stops of dynamic range in low ISO. But that is mostly because of the huge sensor. And you pay that one...

Canon, Nikon and Sony DSLRs are price driven products with the mainstream in mind. ONly Fuji seems to go alternative ways, but they are very slow with new cameras if they will bring one ever...

Their color is second to none in the DSLR market, DR is better than all other DSLRs, however the S3 lacks resolution and it is a too slow body also. It is my second body apart from the 5d.

A FF Fuji DSLR with lets say 15MP and one or two stops more of DR than the S3 would be close to the holy grail of DSLRs. The S3 has already true 14bit color in their RAWs, and that shows.

Whether Canon will implement that kind of stuff anytime soon, is doubtful...

I don't think many of us would have so much Canon cameras and
accessories if it wasn't for this website.
...how relatively small a percentage of Canon users are represented on this forum, right? The majority of my Canon gear (and user experience) predates digital and this forum. There is a world beyond DPReview, you know, in which people purchase and use gear rather than cloistering themselves away on forums for untold hours every day to pontificate about equipment. Most of the professionals I know have never even hear of DPReview (which, after all, is decidedly amateur-oriented) much less the forums. And my tyro friends? They've never heard of DPReview either, even though they all own digital cameras.

Imagine that.

And if Canon takes issue with DPReview for some reason - why, by the way, is nothing more than speculation at this point - maybe they have a perfectly good reason. Frankly, I could care less as DPReview has nothing to do with my enthusiasm for either photography or the gear I've chosen to use.

Although certainly more well-known than most, DPReview is still just another online review site, and its reviewers are as prone to bias as any others.

I would add to the statement below...

There is a world beyond DPReview, you know, in which people purchase and use gear rather than cloistering themselves away on forums for untold hours every day to pontificate about equipment THAT THEY MADE UP IN THEIR MIND ONLY BECAUSE IT IS WHAT THEY WANT TO HAPPEN AND THEN TRY TO LAMELY PASS IT OFF AS FACT

Sorry, couldn't help myself - the DPREVIEW Forums (not the equipment reviews) are seen as a complete joke in the industry due to the over the top rumor mongering that goes on here where people daily pass themselves off as insiders that know and then spew utter garbage that makes it clear that they have no clue.

that Canon has sold more Digital cameras in the last 10 years than they did film in the last 30 years. Just a guess.

DPReview is actually probably the reason I did not buy Canon(or Nikon)... I agree that these forums feed gear buying frenzy though(I only need what I have, I only need what I have, I only... ok fine, just one more lens:)

It may have been a leak test to identify another source of leaking.

Canon emotionally irritating users on a site which is practically the Vatican of camera review would have a severe marketing impact world wide. Unify people for a cause other than buying their DSLRs? Warning: Not worth testing. Stay away. Enough heads could roll to play 10 pin.

People see a few memorable shots, want more, and go to this site for DSLR study.

...and considering that the AE-1 - Canon's most successful model to date, and the camera that virtually saved the 35mm SLR from extinction back in the mid-seventies - would fall within that time frame.

.............I've never heard a photographer actually admit to knowing about DPR except for one Nikon using pro who said that he reads the reviews. It really is those reviews that bring people to this site I think. I stumbled across DPR a few years ago myself while Googling the new DRebel after learning about its existence at Cnet.com. Not long after that, the D70 review came out and I almost went for it but didn't bite when I finally figured out that Nikon's lens selection was less appealling and less affordable. I remember looking at some D70 images of a baseball game at the Nikon forum that had some very obvious purple fringing and also reading the glowing complements of those shots from the gaggle of Nikon devotees..........lol.........brand loyalty can be a mental disability I guess.
