The challenge has begun!

I am using a G-1, but just wanted to know the parameters.
Thanks for the response.

Well, all i have to do is change the name to 'Ineligible' so we
know its not a Canon camera that took the picture.

RS
Uh oh! Look what we have here:
http://www.pbase.com/image/826481

Notice the camera used was a "SONY"!!!

What do we do in this situation? Time to panic! ugg, oh no, press
the red button!
Quick, start the self-destruction procedure!

great idea. And here are my entries...

Oh yeah, it was about 20 below zero when I took these. It still is...

Got to love this country. The only thing that makes up for short cold winter days are 18 hours of daylight and warm summer days.

I've added mine. Hope you like it. We usually don't have that much snow in Holland.

Hey guys,

Challenge #1: Winter theme, has begun! People of the canon forum,
you may start taking pictures or dig out your old ones that has
anything to do with winter! Some people might live in Australia,
(where there won't be winter at this time) but they can still
participate! If you have any old pictures that you want to post,
you can do so. the only thing you need to do is add (exibition) to
the end of this. meaning this is a picture taken before the
challenge started.

This is how the challenge is going to work.

CTF (canon talk forum) members can now go take pictures of winter
theme. Once they pick out what pictures they want to post, they
can go to http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge and log into the
account to post their pictures. At the end of the challenge
(January 8, 2002) people can vote in the 2 day period. Who ever
wins, will pick the next challenge!

The rules:

-You may post up 3 pictures.
-You need a title to your pictures
-No more pictures can be uploaded after the due date
-after uploading your pictures, you have to logout
-you may post pictures before the beginning of the challenge but
you must have (exibition) at the end of your title
-everyone who posted their picture(s) to the challenge can vote at
the end
-the person who wins will pick the next challenge!

The categories:

Eligible - Pictures are taken with a canon camera and must be taken
in between the due date of the challenge. You do not need to add
(eligible) to the end of your title since its the main category

Exibition - Pictures are taken with a canon camera and does not
need to be taken in the due date of the challenge. You need to add
(exibiton) to the end of your title.

If you have any question, please reply, thanks!

Hi @ll!

I miss a statement like this in the gallery:

"The submitter of each photo retains the copyright to that photo"

Happy New Year

Chris

Rehi,

I posted an IR color shot I took on 31.12.2001 afternoon in the first snow. Too bad, that all snow melted yesterday. I would have liked to take more of that kind.

Rehi!

Shouldn't we change to a multi-page gallery setup? The loading becomes terribly slow due to the amount of thumbnails. I would recommend 12 thumbs per page.

Or would all pic get lost, if we change the gallery setup?

Greetings from a german modem user

Chris

Rehi,

and thanx again!

I would have done it for you, but I wasn't shure, if the pics might get lost - I'm not so familiar with Pbase. It was horrible enough to upload my pic yesterday evening - sometimes Pbase is extremely slow, sometimes quite normal - seems to depensd on the traffic.

But after your changes it's much better.

BTW - you didn't set the thumbnails count to 12 but 14 :-)

12 is the maximum thumbnail number, you can view without scrolling at a desktop resolution of 1024x768.

A further question:

How will we vote? Do we only vote for the best or is it possible to get a top ten maybe? There are so many nice ones so far.

BTW - THE THREE LAST UPLOADS SEEM TO BE MISSING.

Greetings from Germany

Chris
hi Chris,

Okay, i'll change it to 12 thumbnails per page.

Rehi!
BTW - THE THREE LAST UPLOADS SEEM TO BE MISSING.
I think, I found out why:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1010&message=1981217

02-Jan-2002 - Uploads are not working!!! Pbase is temporarily out of inbound disk space. Slug is in the Vietnemese mountains and can't get decent net connection so he can take care of these things. Hopefully, all will be better in the next few days. Love, Spider

Now I know, why my upload took so long yesterday evening.

Greetings from Germany

Chris

Hey Chris,

I'll change the thumbnail. Thought I put 12, ohh well. I'll get that changed.

The voting will work like this. I will start up a new thread saying votings for Challenge 1. Then people can vote 3 best pictures in each category. Once the due date ends for voting (january 10th midnight - eastern). I will tally up all the votes and see who wins. When you pick out your 3 best pictures for each category, there will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Here is an example of how a vote will look like:

Eligible:
1st- picture (I chose this because blah blah blah)
2nd- wintertheme
3rd- a night in snow (this picture is nice because blah blah blah)

Exibiton:
1st- something
2nd- more snow
3rd- my winter

Who ever wins the 'Eligible' category will lead the next challenge!

I hope this answer your question.

That is Greenwich mean time -8:00, right?

Maybe you should copy the best three of "eligible" and "exhibition" to a second gallery named "winners", so people can find the winning photos faster later.

And when does the winner get his new Mercedes? :-))
