Is anyone a teenzy-weenzy bit disappointed that Canon didn't have more product announcements? I know that Rebel customers are happy, but the rest of us don't have much that new to rejoyce over.

For instance, a 50mm f/1.2? Why bother when there's already a fab f/1.4?

The 70-200 f/4 IS is much needed, but its very costly, and there'still s not much to fill the gap for us 1.6 crop factor people between it and the 17-40 f/4.

I wish they had done something with the 35 f/2. And maybe introduced a few more lenses that were a little cheaper! (like in the $300-$700 range)

rather than the junky 50/1.4. Please don't tell me how great it is stopped down to f/8.0 you get 1.4's to shoot wide open when needed not at f/8.0.

I love my 1.4. It has a lovely, soft bokeh, and the color and contrast really stand out. I cannot imagine needing a 1.2. Nevertheless, I wish there were more lens offerings in their announcements, including a few more body updates.

The important body update will come some with the new 1 series body.

Should be about 3 days before Photonkina opens.

Well I have my 5D and 135/2 L to rejoice over. Exactly what is it that you need? Or did you get the feeling you have too much money?

Good question, but the way people have been clamoring for it without end...

There are now five 50 mm primes, a 24-70, 24-105 IS, a 60 mm macro ...

Suprised they offered the dustbuster in the bottom of the line!
Don't be; aside from selling more Rebels, they're also letting people who buy them test the feature out before it finds its way into higher-end bodies.

While the EOS 3 wasn't "bottom of the line" - in fact it was a step or two down from the top - it introduced the 45-point AF, and when that proved itself, it found its way into the 1-series film ( and ultimatley digital ) bodies.

Most people will have a wish list and if that has not been fulfilled they will be disappointed. I would like to have seen (funds permitting) a 30D replacement with dustbuster, a new 100-400 L IS and a new 100mm macro with IS, but there you go, not this time.

I guess you just have to wait it out for another 12 months before you give Canon another grand.

I’m really happy with my 30D and don’t look for some 10+ MP upgrade. 8 MP is enough for all I need (A3 prints) and even more. Just don’t mention the rest.
My 17–55/2.8 IS works just perfect – really excellent EF-S lens.

And newly announced 70-200/f 4 IS seems to be interested. I use 70-200/f 2.8 IS from a pool and consider to buy one for the personal use, however now I’d better wait for a while to test the new F4 version – almost twice lighter and less costly. And yes, 4-stop IS sounds really good!

A bit underwhelmed maybe, but not disappointed. If you think the 50mm f/1.4 is "fab" then I guess the new f/1.2 is of no consequence to you, but many have bemoaned the AF on the f/1.4 and will welcome this new lens. It's quite a bit more expensive, and as such will only be a niche lens, but so is the other f/1.2 lens the 85mm f/1.2 L mk II.

And people have been clamoring for a 70-200 f/4 IS for a long time now, and it's finally here. It's not of interest to me since I already have that range covered with IS, but it's still a nice new lens.

Regarding the gap between 17-40 and 70-200, what about the 24-105? I know that's a lot of overlap, but those three lenses together would make a killer kit of f/4 lenses, and I imagine this 3-lens kit is exactly what Canon had in mind from the moment they released the 17-40 f/4 in 2003.

I was personally hoping for a 200mm f/1.8 IS. Maybe next time.

The EF 70-200 f/4L IS is huge news.

Throw in a new dSLR and a 50mmL and you have a great Christmas this year for Canon users.

I'm rather pleased with the announcement of the 50/1.2. I'm a bit surprised that something in a 1-series was not announced, but that may come yet.

I see that there's at least one poster on another thread that's disappointed that Canon didn't introduce a cheap consumer super-zoom with IS.

Should both be very nice with Digic III, anti-dust, and more....

And to anyone starting out, I'd recommend the XTi in a heartbeat over Sony and Nikon offerings. Canon disappointed with the 30D but the next year will be full of winners.

Just watch!
