I am planning to replace my old Minolta 5400xi with a flash fully compatible with my alpha 100. Will the KM 5600 HS/Sony HVL-F56AM or the Metz 54 MZ-4 be the better choice ?

any advice is welcome. Thx.

I would vote for KM 5600 HSD. Wireless alone will make up of all the potential lazy-eye issues, when and if encountered. I never had problems I could not overcome with lazy-eye - there are workarounds if you absolutely need to do a shot and eyes keep closing, but the wireless feature is priceless in my book.

It brings instant amazing results in macro, portraits and many other situations where without it you wouldn't be able to do a decent shot. It creates another, third dimension to the scene flat otherwise. You have to evaluate what is it you are planning on shooting and go from there…

Thanks for all the info. I think that the lazy-eye problem is important to me... and as I understand I will not miss out on any wireless feature with the Metz 54 anyway.

In that sense I just ordered the Metz.

Also, the Metz is currently cheaper here in Europe - even cheaper than a used 5600 on ebay. I got mine for 298 Euro now.

Where'd you buy?
I ordered from http://www.foto-erhardt.de . However, it is still not clear, if they have the flash in stock. I will know in the next 2 days...

My vote goes for the Metz.

And just FYI, it's not good practice to list your equipment in your Signature line - for when people are trying to search for equipment results, tests, etc. You can however, put your list of equipment in your profile. See mine if you care for an example.

it's amazes me that this flash and the M6 module can be out of stock all over the world for so long.
