A new Sigma DSLR would be a surprize!

Pete, I must say that in this mess that we now called a forum, you
are here to keep things straight with reason and good information.
I appreciate that. SO a big thanks out to you.

But, I still have to say that Sigma is running out of time. If they
are any later than photokina then they will have to go back to the
drawing board to play more catch up again.
Thanks, I do try to keep things from getting too far out of hand, but if Sigma is simply finishing work on what I assume is a new camera around a new Foveon sensor, a revamping that always takes time and often includes last minute burps that must be dealt with, then all they will have to do is finish the job and get it out when it is ready. There are advantages to making a big announcement at a big event like Photokina, but given the fact that the Foveon/Sigma SD series is quite unique I suspect they will make a splash whenever they get it out.

In the meantime Nancy and I intend to keep taking pictures and sharing them.

Pete

... As a current KM 7d user, I would strongly consider switching to
Sigma if they announce a new camera sometime relatively soon. I'm
not at all impressed with the A100 from Sony, Nikon uses Sony's
same noisy sensor, and Canon ergonomics are awful IMO. With a
strong offering Sigma could attract a lot of ex-Minoltans who don't
like what they see from Sony. I'll certainly be keeping my eyes
open for any news on a new body...
Whats wrong with the Sony ?... IF there is no new SD xx i might consider switching the other way ........ :)
But ofcourse ... there will be a new Sigma.

Nikon uses a bunch of different sensors, there is a 6mp APS, couple of 10mp APS and 4mp LBcast,

and 12mp APS CMOS. Which sensor are you referring to? If you are referring to the 6 mp APS size sensor that has been used by Minolta, Pentax and Nikon, then I think you might be surprised at how "low noise" it is in the newest camera to use it. The Nikon D50.

The Nikon D200 does NOT use the same sensor as the Sony A100 and the Nikon D80, even though they are the same megapixel resolution. The D200 sensor has a 4-channel readout, the A100 and D80 sensor has a 2-channel readout. In all probability the AA filters are different on each camera, also.

I am not a Sigma user (except lenses), but I wonder, does the current Sigma DSLR exhibit lower noise at high ISO than the Bayer sensors?

in either newest german colorfoto or fotomagazin i am reading that
there will be a probably sd20 with 5 mio photosites. so why sd20?
also a mockup of a fuji s4pro is shown.
Why not SD20? they can call it what ever they want right?

and what's with a mock up of the S4Pro?

To answer your last question about noise levels: no, the Sigma SD10 does in no way outperform the Bayer-equipped cameras in that respect. For many (at least for me) that would be one of the points in which Sigma will have to improve if they want to stand a chance against the competition.
