Hi, I was hoping to do something with this photo that would make it worth framing. I have had a play at it (tried a B&W version), but I was hoping you guys would be able to do something special with it so i've attached the original.

Hopefully this works ok cause its my first try posting an image - fingers crossed

Steps:
Convert to B&W
Blur Background
Adjust lighting
sharpen
Some miscellaneous fixes
Crop to center image

For the second version I ran a sketch action on the first one and played with it a little.

Good work hobobobobobob. I'm curious how you did the background blur. It wasn't easy for me to separate the people from the background. Care to share?

Thanks,
jbf

Can't post adjusted image, however; to correct the extreme RED color of faces, etc; -- try the following:

Selective Colors > RED, set Cyan = +25, Magenta = -15, Yellow = 0, Black = -30. Then, sharpen to also add some contrast use USM Amount=30, Radius=30, Threshold=0

Smart Blur Contrast Mask> layer mask> painted dad's coat with black> flattened> dupe layer> applied inverse USM for haze fix. gc

... I like that one. I find that approach requires very subtle application but when it works (like it does in your image) it is very effective. Well done.

The others are definite improvements as well. Congrats to the retouch entire gang! ;^)
