Nikon D3h @ Photokina

It won't have the D200/D80 sensor.

To put things straight the D200 and the D80 do not have the same sensor. They share the MP rating but they are not the same sensor.

If you gave the new "D3H" body the D200 sensor you'd have the same sporadic banding issues as the D200. Nikon will not do this again.

More importantly, as Thom points out, the D200 sensor cannot reach 8 fps so if Nikon is to keep the framerate up, that's what the DxH series is all about, then a new sensor is in order.

Sorry, I haven't read the specs of the 10.2 mpix sensor.

I think that the D3h it would be the most logical move that Nikon could make at the moment, being the D2H/Hs the oldest model in the lineup (2003). and it's three years since the announcement, approx. the same time in wich the D200 replaced the D100.
I can see that Nikon is consistent in its three-year model life.

I was nodding my head in agreement right up to the "Wt-3 Wireless." That would imply a D200-style body with no vertical grip. I suspect that what is meant is "built-in WT-3 like wireless..."

Besides the D200 CCD isn't the same one as the one used in the D80...
And I would bet my D200 that D2h will NOT have D200's CCD.

Being an Nikon Authorized Dealer, I had a talk yesterday with the
Croatian Nikon Distributor, Fototeh Ltd. The manager has informed
me that we will see something else beside the D80 at Photokina....
It would be rather funny if it was just a new coolpix 10 or 12x fixed lens. They haven't made any new versions of those in awhile.

I am not answering for Thom, but I think that such pronouncements that this camera is or is not coming out should be taken with a grain of salt. Nikon has never pre announced anything that I can remember.

Futhermore, if C produces another 35mm DSLR in their pro range (not likely from what I am reading) will there be howls from the Nikon faithful that they are running farther behind?

Depends upon what you mean by "pre-announced." The D70 was indeed pre-announced in Dec and then announced at PMA the following year and delivered a couple of months after that. Indeed, in terms of cameras being available when announced, only the D50 and D70s turn out to be announced and shipped simultaneously. Some, like the D200 and the upcoming D80 had relatively short (45 days or less) windows between announce and ship. Some had very long delays between announce and ship (D2x announced before Photokina 2004 and shipped in February the next year).

I was just about to say "Sign me up for this body". I think I can live with 10 MP for a long, long time.

But then I realized it's not FF. So I'll wait. I'm not dying to get a FF body. But if I'm going to break down and spend my money on a Pro body I can afford to wait. My D200 is doing just fine right now.

Sure will be tempting, however.
