Weekly wildlife thread

Great pictures as always. How much extension were you using for the Stink Bug Nymphs? I have a set of Kenko tubes but I have so far onlly used the 36 mm tube with my 300/4 because I fear that the whole set wouldn't be rigid enough. Am I wrong on this?

I'm now considering the Nikon PN-11 but I don't think it would be enough to get as close as in your shot. What are your thoughts? I already have a PK-13 somewhere but I guess I would need something much bigger.

Lasse,

I think I shot those stinkbug Nymphs with the PK-13 (27.5mm) and the PN-11 (52.5mm).

You are correct in your assumption that when using all three Kenko tubes, they are very flimsy and have lots of play. The Kenko tubes are really poorly construted and I have not had a set last for more than 18 months. After that, they start to loose conductivity with the lens and you start getting erratic meter readings or no reading at all.

For that reason, I have switched to the Nikon tubes. They are mechanical but built like a tank. Because they are mechanical, you don't have to worry about the continuity problems as with the Kenko Tubes. And with the D200, you can shoot on aperture priority and maintain all exif data as well as use all metering modes.
