NEC LCD2090UXi or NEC LCD2090UXi?

"Only Mitsubishi/NEC displays with "GammaComp" have 8-10-8 3D LUTs at
this time. "

I am not quite technical enough for some things in the article but the one thing I did pick out is above. He cites this as a positive thing for color calibration and the 2690 along with the 2490, 2190UXi, 2090UXi, and 1990SXi all have this feature.

I decided to buy the 2190UXi over the 2090UXi. Even before calibration, it looks fantastic compared to my previous NEC 1880SX and Lacie ElectronBlueIV 19" CRTs. The blacks are black, the whites are white.

Of utmost importance, that LCD screen door look that is annoying on the 1880 is barely there on the 2190UXi. This is better for photos as the false sharpness no longer throws me off, but not as great for text legibility. More opinions to come.

And ..... before the dead pixel test, I see no dead pixels ! Cool.

Since I was unable to get any information comparing the quality of the 2190 vs. 2090 panels either on the Web or by seeing either panel in any local store here in Silicon Valley, CA, I just took the plunge to buy the 2190, largely with TravBomb's recommendation that it was indeed better.

Inspired by the words of the movie "Fight Club", at least now, I know I have that sofa issue taken care of.

Thanks for all of the support, TravBomb !

Hi,

I just took delivery of an NEC LCD 2090Uxi and am wondering about the ideal brightness setting. The Gretag Macbeth EyeOne Display2 package recommended 120 cd/m2 . That seems too low for this monitor. What level is the sweet spot for this monitor? 180 cm/m2 ?

It depends on your ambient room lighting and, at least in part, on the lighting under which you're viewing your prints. I work in a fairly dark room and calibrate mine to 100 cd/m².

I noticed the same thing with this monitor. I currently have it calibrated to 160 cm/m2. 120 seems too low to me. At that level colors are rather dull and the overall contrast is bad.
