FZ30/50 - Can someone compare AF/MF?

As for the FZ50's MF accuracy, you have more room for error with
the FZ50 because of the huge DOF of the timy image sensor. DSLRs
with physically larger sensors have shallow DOF and require VERY
accurate MF if you want your subject to be sharp.
Using full tele (420mm EQ) is bit sensitive even with these smal
sensors. Focusing on 50m distant object and afterwards taking a
shot of 300 m distant object with no change in focus will
definitely cause blurred (unfocused) picture.
True. When I say the FZ50 has "huge DOF" I'm not saying you don't have to worry about focus accuracy. The difference between focus at 300mm and 420mm when the subject is 50m away is huge.

What I'm saying is at f4 and 100mm when my subject is 3m to 10m away my DOF on a DSLR is very shallow and using MF requires me to be VERY accurate. at f4 and 100mm on the FZ50 the DOF is so huge that my focus could be a half a meter in front of or behind my subject and the subject will probably still be sharp.

I dont know if the prices everyone post in here with $600 or
whatever it might be is without tax? Cause in Sweden they (almost)
always list prices with tax, so what you see is what you pay.
Depnds on the place being bought from. Sometimes a tax is added for certain States if the originating seller has a location (or somehow associated with) in the buyers area.

Many places don't add tax, but that could change someday, so $600 to $650 is usually the price that will be paid; plus whatever packaging/delivery costs. At most it would probably amount to only about $725 even so.
$1000 USD equiv.? 'Ouch' indeed.

But do you mean people all over the world pay US$650 for the FZ50, or is it only the strange states in the US that doesn't pay any tax that gets that price, and all other countries has a 20-30% to add to that?

I think its 25% we add in Sweden on everything we buy....except gasoline and alcohol where its way more.

I only know how it is in the US, maybe someone else can answer what or why the prices vary greatly.

Internet stores have often been a topic of discussion as to whether or not a tax should be mandatory for everything, everywhere (in USA anyhow).

I avoid any taxes when shopping online, if I can, all depends on if the online store is connected to real stores/warehouses in a particular State you take delivery in.

Even so, generally US sales tax is around 1/10 to 1/14 (if I have my info correct) of a dollar, not 1/4!

I don't know if taxless online sales will ever end but there's probably more chance of it being added than it staying this way.

Just thought maybe the upcoming 6500 could be something....also manual focusing ring. Only 300mm tele and bad macro, but with addon-lenses it could be something, and it'll probably be cheaper than a FZ50, and much much better ISO-capabilities.

But reading about it I see it does NOT have IS, and also the lens is extremely slow going down to F4.9 at full tele.
Wow, who would want a camera like that :(
I guess I'll have to hold on to my old C-765 even longer than I expected :D
