These artifacts were visible at 150-200% in firmware version 1 photos particularly when lighting was less than ideal . In order to eliminate them the photo needed to be on the verge of overexposure . To avoid them all my indoor shots were f4 with both internal flash set at high combined with bounced external flash .

The new firmware 1.01 corrects this problem which was the only bug I had with the camera .

The aggressive noise reduction is rarely observable and largely confined to available light shots and not really observable when using flash or in good light . Small areas are smoothed out but again this is only really noticeable at 150-200% and preferable to inevitable noise which would otherwise be visible in those conditions .

Marok,

I recently purchased a QV4000. Where can I find this updated firmware?

How do you like this camera with the update, compared to the Canon G2?

Thanks,

Mark Linder

Hi, Casio U.K. will load the new firmware onto a cf card if you post one to them .
I had the G2 for a while and if it did not misfocus would have kept it .

The images are noticeably softer than the QV4ks . Moreover sharpening them does not bring out the detail in the way sharpening 4k photos does which Steve B suggested may be due to heavier anti aliasing .

Marok,

Thanks for your reply. Alas, I am in the U.S. and the Casio site has no info about an update. I guess I'll just be patient.

Do you have a site with uploaded pics? I like to see how pics of a "pro" look! If I were to set up such a thing, what specs should the pics have prior to uploading (size, etc.)?

Please understand I can't try this out myself as I don't own a QV4000 but a bit of searching dug up this Western Europe QV-4000 firmware ver 1.01 update which seems to download OK but the readme.txt is in Chinese (I think).

Go to http://www.worldlingo.com/ and select the Machine Translation service and paste in the following URL:-

http://www.dpnet.com.cn/download/download.asp?id=880

You can download the firmware via the lower right blue arrow.
Whether you get an English option on your camera, who knows?
Take care.
I recently purchased a QV4000. Where can I find this updated firmware? Search for firmware in this forum - there are serveral (somehow older) threads with URLs and details en masse... including some contributions by myself :)

To be honest I have only taken one picture since upgrading the firmware .

More info on QV4000 1.01 Western Europe firmware update. If you use http://www.worldlingo.com again on Subject=Computers, Data Processing and Chinese> English on the URL:-
http://www.dpnet.com.cn/school/school_show_faq.asp?id=2863

then you get instructions on how to do the update.
Again, take care.
