New to the D200, Have setup the menu Banks as in Don McVeys spreadsheet v1.5.

Seems strange to have 2 sets of Banks, I assume that while its not neccessary, that most people would change the banks together.
I can see lots of unintended results by forgetting to set both together.

E.g in Shooting Menu, File naming is set reflect, the custom settings such as Point and Shoot, Portrait etc. Therefore you could change the custom settings to Sports & action, but the file name starts PAS if you forget to change the shooting Menu bank as well

I may change this setting back to DSC.
How do other people use these setting Banks

Thanks
Pete

I opted to keep the default file name, partly because of the concern you raised. Also, for me it isn't really relevant after I shoot to know which bank I used. I can check EXIF to see settings.

I think a bigger issue is that there is no way to save your default bank settings (i.e., the settings in the spreadsheet). As soon as you make a setting change during a shoot, that bank is updated. I think it would be useful to be able to easily reset bank settings to their user-defined default. Otherwise, you have to check your settings before an important shoot to be sure you haven't changed from your intended defaults.

I have one banks as RAW which when the file is saved it looks like this RAW#### and another as JPG and that one the files come out as JPG ####. I don't have a need for more then 2 shooting banks but I do have 3 CSM. One is Normal another as Auto ISO (fairly self explanatory) and the last as COM, standing for Commander mode. I use any and all of the CSM for either of the 2 Shooting banks and all other setting I might make I do manually depending on what I'm shooting. It's not often that I go from one to the other and back again in any one shoot and or day. But that can happen.

I like your idea of setting one up for Auto ISO and one for Commander. Just the other day i was thinking how much of a pain it was to have to go to the flash menu and set that...

thanks for the eye opener!

Mark-Chris you are welcome.

I had to read Thom Hogan's book before I realized that the two sets were completely independent of each other. After that, re-reading it all, I felt ... like, duh ... (sheesh).

After using them a bit, as my wedding settings are VERY dif from my portrait settings, and the home snappies are a different thing as is the sports I occasionally shoot ... gee, takes care of the banks right there.

Very handy, but yes, you should be able to set a default for each that you could quickly go back to ... rather than only being able to default to the factory settings.
