Fascinating Thread on Sony Talk!

Jarrell, people ask me how I did learn english. I sometimes joke that I picked it up from tv. This is somewhat true since I've learnt many expressions from watching tv and read english books, but mainly my english is taugth in school. In Sweden they start teaching kids english in grade 3 right now, when I was in school it was in grade 4 (ball, cat, blue, red etc).

The reason why I know the expression brass is actually thanks to my step dad. He was one of those brassy guys at a submarine in summer and ice breaker in the winter for the Swedish navy (it's called the marine's in swedish). Mom and him met when I was 10 years old and he more or less brought me up as a kid/teenager. Mom and him broke up 15 years ago, but we still keep in contact and I still consider him as my "dad". He took us abord the ships he worked on and I've been having really fancy dinners with admirals and other fancy guys (I was a very well behaved girl!). We also share photography together, and I'm still jealous of his 2 Hasselblad's and Linhof. But that makes up for the fact that he's jealous of my computer knowledge and Photoshop skills giggles :-)
