Some of you probably seen the Drake and hem i post in early sping . Here's the sequence of chicks growing changes from 3 months of works. (except the nests and eggs where i missed in early session) I lost track of some of the males if they were in the progress of eclipse plumage or just Juvi transition to adulthood. There's are roughly 3-4 families in the lake. I would appreciated if you can pinpoint me which is what or not. FYI, these are wild birds, not captive.

Anyway, all done with mighty 500 IS, 30D, 1dm2n with 1.4x most of the time. Keeper rate with this series is at least 3 times more than better on 1 series compare to 30D. They seems to focus where i want them at all time.

For wood duck lovers...watch them grow...thanks for looking

Here's a few

Superb series. Colour intense; detail crisp; no fancy stuff just great pics of birds.

Just logged onto the forum after time away, - what a pleasure to see stuff like this.

Well done Daniel.

WOW... Great work Daniel, everthing is fantasic including the lighting. How close were you in most of them?

VERY nice work. It helped that the backdrop gave the water it's coloring, but those images are much more than that. You make it look easy.

You'll have to ignore the gallery's collection of bad compositions, improper exposures, and amateurish post processing. ;)

How is it the water was so green? Reflections off the pond I would guess. I am so impressed with the 1.4 with these also. I know I love my 400mm (could never afford much more) but I haven't used the 1.4 with it yet, this makes me yern to try :). Anyways great lovely shots, just loved seeing them.

Nice ones. The only criticism that I would make is that a couple of them look a bit slanted. You must have the friendliest Wood Ducks around. The ones around here haven’t let me get less than 200’ from them without flying away. The ones in my yard fly if I just walk up to the window!

When I ask which Canon lenses are best,
people tell me to 'go to L.'

Paul, you won't be able to see me tho that 2mm fisheye of her...LOL

That picture was shot at lowest possible shutter speed to compromise for low ISO. 1/160s. The bird was moving slow, 1/160s was enough to get sharp picture but slight motion blur were introducted.

If you like to see better 100 crop%, that's diff pic shot seconds later after i turned the beamer on. 1/640s, nothing changed except the shutter speed. She was about same distance from that last picture. Keep in mind, last picture was cropped for head shot. They are at same distance

Thanks for looking

1/640s, ISO 250, 1.4x at 700mm with 1dm2n. 100%, NO PP.

I'd like to see a 100% crop of the eye from that pics

We might be able to see you and the camera in it :-)

Thanks, very close.

They get used to my presence after severals visit. I remember shooting with 300L IS once and lost my MFD! Not to mention with 500... most of my shots with 500 are within MFD, something i did use ext tubes

The pond is exactly dirty brown, which is really not my taste of any birds in water. So i have to pick a few spots where they get under reflection from foliage. If they stays, i'll get yellow and red in the Fall. :)

Thanks for the compliment, 1.4x works really great with this lens.

It's city birds, Greg. They are kind of get used to the surroundings. :)

I found me an open bush, lay on ground and wait....... 10 minutes if i get lucky, sometime took hour before i gave up. The chics are very active and like cruise all over the places. My spot is just perfect for them to hide and play under the shade. The parent were always stay in distance for protection. That's how i was able to get closer to them. Without the kids, they are always stay at least 60-80' away. No chances getting head shot at all.
