Hey Everybody,

s it possible to get warranty support from Sigma for a lens without an original sales receipt? I bought a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 on Fred Miranda but it’s giving the dreaded ERROR 99 on My rebel XT. The lens is only a few months old but I didn’t get the original sales receipt in the transaction. Can I claim the lens as a gift? Any ideas?

Yes, The first thing I did when I got the error was clean the contacts. Sigma normally offers a 4 year warranty on their lenses so losing that sort of "insurance" would be a tough blow... Gotta decide what to do.

You bought this on Fred Miranda? You should have purchased from an authorized (or authorised) Canon dealer.

You want free service without a receipt at a non-authorized dealer? Not bloodly likely.

When I ask which Canon lenses are best,
people tell me to 'go to L.'

Im not sure a Canon authorized (authorised) dealer would sell me a Sigma lens unless of course they were also a Sigma dealer but I see your point. I guess all I can do is call and see what Sigma can do for me. It really wouldn't suprise me to be denied any sort of warranty work on the lens. Seems to be more common now to deny warranty work whenever possible regardless of the situation. Can't blame them for wanting to make money...

I live in Japan. I took my 24-70 2.8 EX into the Sigma HQ (outside of Tokyo) for rechipping because it didn't work with my 420ex on my 20D. I also brought my 28mm prime because the front element was wobbly and the 20mm for recalibration. They fixed the 28mm for $50, the 20mm got recalibrated for free, and they gave me a BRAND NEW 24-70 for free.

No receipts. All lenses were bought secondhand. Sigma for the win!
