NX can not save a NEF as a TIF

After converting a NEF file with the trail version of NX and trying to save as a TIF I get the following error message:

Could not save
Eingine failure: k in savewithcache
Error code: 1002
Error String: user exception: exception in FFM (TIFF FFM): function save

I have tried to find what error code 1002 is - no luck
I have tried uninstalling NX and reinstalling, same issue
I can save as a jpg

Have any of you experienced this or know a solution?

Hasn't been a problem for me. Have you tried the "Open with" option to open the current file in another application such as PhotoShop? I ask because NX converts the file to a TIF when you use that option. Might be interesting to see if it blows up on you then too. Good luck...

I have occassionally had an error when saving to tiff. Saving the nef file, reopening and then saving as tiff normally works. I havent managed to find out what is causing the error
 
I get a different error when saving NEF to TIFF... no IPTC data is written to the TIFF! Which for me is about as helpful as bombing out with a weird exception like you have experienced.

What platform are you on? How many NEFs are you trying to save to TIFF at the same time?

I have not seen this problem either and in fact save to tiff repeatedly. However yesterday I came across my first problem:I worked on 2 separate nef files each with adjustments and each including different versions. I add this bercause I also worked on 2 other NEF files but neither had versions saved. The next day I could not open the files with versions(the files without versions opened fine), although on the open dialog box I can see the the thumbnail pictures. The files will open in PSCS2 camera raw without of course the enhancements.Haven't seen this reported but I did send a report to Nikon & received a staus # & await a repy

Quickie: for those upgrading from D70 to D80, I really hope NC4 can process D80 NEF's, I would be mad if I had to buy NX would Nikon decide that D80 NEF's are only supported in NX
 
I've had some problems too.

I sometimes couldn't save jpg to nef but I could save jpg to tiff and then to nef.

My problems were over when I run the installer of Capture 4 an UNINSTALED capture 4.

I had just deleted every file I could find but that was apparently not enough.
