Camera Strap

I like my Tamrac straps. I have 3 different ones but they all use the same quick-release buttons so I can use the correct strap for the right occasion (foam for heavy loads, thin rubber for on the go, padded for in between).

...I STILL find that funny!

Attach both sides of the strap to the left hand (non-grip) side of
the camera.
Hey that's a pretty cool idea, Chuck. I've been doing similar to you, keeping the camera under my left arm. With a long lens and hood on, I can rest the end of the hood on my fingers. But I have the strap on both sides of the camera, and have just been rotating the neck strap to make it work. I'll give your 2-on-1 attachment method a try, and see if it works better.

Regards,

Any of these listed will work, but for anti-mugging I use a shoelace; square knots tied at both ends :-)

I used to like me Canon strap but now it just has to GO!!

You guy's make spending money so much fun that I really don't care how mad she gets. LOL ;-)

If the writing is your only concern then you can spend a dollar to get a black marker to paint the writing black.

I never liked the large and prominent writing on the 30D strap. I'm proud to have the Canon name on my camera, but the big letters spelling out EOS Digital were just too much, so I went on a search for a new strap. I bought a few, but none compared with the quality of the included Canon strap, so as a few others have suggested, I used a black marker to fill in all the white letters. It looks great that way.

Please explain what you mean by a wrist strap. I've noticed the disconnects on my Optech straps and was wondering what they were used for. Post a picture if you can.

Thanks

I never could stand neckstraps either and have these on all of my cameras.

You're carrying a DSLR and lens attached, much larger than the average point 'n shoot. Changing the strap won't make you any less of a target.

Maybe if you take the decals off your car, people won't know what model it is, and won't steal it. While you're at it, make sure you do the same with your clothing. Have a nice watch? They sell fakes in New York City - you should probably buy one and wear that instead, in case someone happens to steal it off your wrist - you won't have lost an expensive one!

If the strap is uncomfortable, replace it.

But if you're seriously going to tell me that you would rather see "NO NAME NO NAME NO NAME" printed on your $1,200 camera... you've got issues.
I'll go back to driving my Porsche with Hyundai logos now...

I'm guessing that you're a bit younger than I am, as I remember Mercedes owners doing exactly that a number of years ago. The lettering on the trunk indicating what model, turbo, etc were removed to prevent thieves from id'ing the most expensive models. This was different from removing the hood ornament when parking to prevent that from being stolen off the car.

This was widespread and continued for a few years....the practice has since died out, so at least today, it's a strategy that no longer works.

I know people did it - and I know people that STILL do it.
I still think they're silly.

If it gets stolen... you should have insurance. If you didn't, shame on you. And, if you were really that attached to your car, perhaps you should re-think your priorities. :)

LOL I always wondered the same thing - two reasons:

1) the camera + grip + lens is HEAVY, at least heavier than I want hanging off my neck.

2) when you walk, it bumps into your chest! If you're going to wear it for awhile, it's much comfier (to me) to have it hanging lens-down at my side, and I can even rest a hand on it to reassure myself it's still there. I'd rather not look like a tourist, and a stupid tourist with 10 pounds hanging on my chest!

I want to know who wears their camera w/long lens around their
necks!!! My 30D w/grip and 70-200L IS weighs in at a hefty 6.6
lbs. I NEVER wear it around my neck, but sling it over my shoulder
instead. I find the Canon strap to be of high quality and the
non-slip backing works very well. It also stuffs into a camera bag
easily compared to some other neoprene ones I have used in the
past. The advertisement argument is just plain silly. Your gear
gives you away every time. And sometimes you WANT to advertise
that you are "press" when you are at events since you get hassled
less by security. My .02.

I'd recommend a Tamrac (or other manufacturer) neoprene camera strap. Neoprene has a bit of elasticity to it, and acts like a shock absorber for your neck or shoulder.

I personally use the Tamrac "Boomerang" model, but there are plenty others out there to choose from.

Hi Everyone.

After about 2 years of photography I have finally seen the light
and have upgraded my Panasonic FZ20 to a Canon 30D. I couldn't be
happier.

I do have a question for everyone. Personally, I cannot stand the
camera stap that came with the camera. To me it says STEAL ME all
over it because the word CANON is printed in big white letters on
the front of it. It can be seen for miles.

If I were to replace the strap, what would you recommend?

Thanks!
