Dear all, there was discussion recently about Price Matching! I got mine 30D yesterday (after a long long time of decisions) from my local Jessops (UK).

They have matched the price of Warehouseexpress so I went with them!!!
There was not problem at all!!!

Thank you very much Jessops.

Excellent news! I'm due to get £1500 of Jessop's vouchers next week and hope to get a 30D with 17-85IS lens and the 70-200 F4 L lens within budget.

Your message gives me hope!

Cheers.

I'm glad you got them to price match.

I went into my local store last week with the 110% difference advert they've been promoting in the magazines recently and provided all the print outs from the warehouseexpress website etc, etc and they wouldn't match or anything. Best price they offered was £795.

So I bought from warehouseexpress instead, so I had to wait an extra day, no biggie and a strong letter has gone off to Jessops Head Office!

Jessops in Stoke would not even honor their own advertised prices

In June's Practical Photographer (Yes i bought my 30d in June and took the mag with me)

The Girl who served me was clueless and so was the manager :-(

I waited 15 mins while she waited for him to count the £850.00 i had given her in cash because of the amount it needed double checking.

So i parted with a little more money than I really should have,

The staff who sold me a 350D some 6 months earlier from the same store were great, they must have moved on to somewhere where they were appreciated more.

Hi

I started the original thread.

I also successfully got Jessops in MIlton Keynes to match with Warehouse Express. I paid £749 + the £7.95 that WE wanted for postage. Very happy with the deal.

I think you need to talk to the manager and persevere.

Good luck

I got my 30d today from Jessops and eventually got them to honour the price match, which was displayed outside the shop on an swing banner. At first I asked about it and the girl said yes they would price match, so I went back to work to get the print outs. The girl was busy so I spoke to someone else, he told me that they did not do price matching on web prices, so I dragged him outside and made him read the advertising board. Anyway I had forgotten to get a print out of delivery charge aaarrrrghhh, so went back again with this in hand. When I showed it to yet another member of staff, she said the price was a web exclusive and they wouldnt price match it because you could get it at that price instore, at which point I asked her if she knew what 'guranteed to beat any internet price' actually meant. She then had to call head office to see if it was ok to price match web exclusive price, which of course it was, and I got it for £757.99 £749.99 plus delivery. Both Mifsuds and Jacobs have it for £749.99. Jessops seem completely incapable of communicating with their staff, its a joke. Its not the staffs fault bless em, but it is really infuriating. Its like they want to hamper your purchase as much as possible. It cheered me up when I saw their price for a 2gb ultra II though. £129.99. I just got one for £36. No wonder they dont price match accesories :) All in all a bad shopping experience, but I got what I wanted at the end of the day. And I am well impressed with the 30d. Much better than my 20d IMO.

How sad is it when the largest photo chain is populated by people who don't know their own deals, nor mostly exhibit any deeper knowledge about the items they sell or photography....

Recently I asked about the difference between 20D and 30D and the answer was.... "the 30D is a bit better.... eh, its got more colours and stuff... eh.... its kinda just better".

I could live with this if they at least did amazing deals (though I prefer to pay the extra ££ and support e.g. camera world and other smaller shops), but ... being the most expensive, and the least interested / knowledgeable??? When will 'market forces' kick in?

My local to work branch of Jessops (Slough UK...pity me please) wanted an extortionat ammount of money for a Sigma 70-200 f2.8, (£799 UKP).

The lens was in stock, I tried it on my DSLR and I had the cash but they wouldn't haggle at all. "That was the price" I was told by the manager. So I popped back a few days later to show the manager my new Sigma 70-200 f2.8 that I bought from T4 cameras. They had several in stock so I could cherry pick and I walked out of the shop with it. I paid £679 for it after a little discussion. The Jessops manager looked peeved, but who's fault is that? Every time I drop into the branch at Slough for little bits and a bobs, they never seem to carry any stock. So what's the point, surely thay make their money on the little stuff? Filters, lens caps, cleaning cloths, CF readers. What's the point of a camera store that can't even do those things well let alone the big stuff. I think that Jessops have been on a downward spiral of self destruction for some time.

I believe that Jessops is now run by the guy who used to run Dixons, so I wouldn't be expecting a good service from them anytime soon :o(

I was in my local Jessops recently (yes, the same one that suggested I clean my sensor with a lens cloth) and the couple in front of me in the queue said that they had come to buy a camera for their daughter and were looking for recommendations. Without asking any questions at all (like how old she is, what she'll use it for, how much they were willing to spend etc etc) the guy just pulled a box from the counter (was one of the Kodak Easyshare jobs) and said "This one is best." Prat.

And the adaptor I wanted was out of stock, despite having phoned and asked them earlier. They confirmed they had plenty. That was my last ever Jessops trip.

The vouchers are actuall tax-free Bonusbonds that I will get as part of a 30-year long service award from my company.

Unfortunately the only camera outlet that I can spend them at is Jessop's. LCE used too but no longer accept them.

After reading the rest of this thread I will walk in to the Crawley branch of Jessop's not holding out high hopes of a good deal. With a bit of luck having Parks in Burgess Hill pretty close by they will price match them at least.

Watch this space!

Well I must say the chap, presumably the manager, I spoke to in my local store in Southampton a few months back was most helpful and knowledgeable.

And as I used their services to play with the camera I feel honour bound to offer them first refusal on a better price.

Actually cellertroll, I said that to my self once. Now I go in just to remind them of all the sales that they've missed with me. I go in fully loaded :-)
When they ask if they can help me, I usually reply..."I seriously doubt it".

I partucularly like dropping in there with my 5D ans Sigma 70-200 f2.8, neither items could they drop from full RRP. I like dropping in with a friend saying loudly in the shop how I bought themfrom another shop (retail not mail order) and saved £800 UKP.

Why get angry, when torture is so much fun!

They price matched my whole purchase which included DSLR, various lenses, Lowepro Slingshot bag, memory cards, lens hoods etc

On top of that they also allowed me to buy it with 12 months interest free credit.
