Hi, im kind of new to this and i need some help. I have an FZ30 and i lost the CD that came with it some time ago. Everything was fine until i recently discovered that i doesnt work with Win98!!

In the Panasonic web site i have found drivers for things that i didnt know existed before, except dirvers for digital cameras. Perhaps i looking in the wrong place???

So if anyone could point an adress (that i seem too dumb to find) or could mail me the drivers i will be thankfull

Just in case my mail is
[email protected]

Thanks anyway for atleast reading.

PS Sorry for my English im from Argentina

oops, just noticed the win98 part. d'oh!

98 or 98se?

doesn't se come with usb mass storage drivers, already?

what I'm saying is that the fz is NOTHING SPECIAL. it is just plain old 'remote disk'. no special protocol needed (canon typically does not use mass storage so they DO need a driver, but pany typically does not).

win98 is bad for usb. 98se at least has SOME chance..

I have to agree with Linuxworks. It is probably time to get a new computer as I doubt it would make sense to buy Windows XP for an old machine.

You might look for an inexpensive USB card such as the ones in this
link.

I like that idea, better! usb cards are so cheap - just make sure the one you get DOES have win98 (etc) drivers.

good OOTB thinking, neil - it COULD be cheaper to 'fix' your drivers or computer this way, via a cheap hardware fix. you could spend all day looking for win98 patches to support your existing (old) usb chipset. plus, dollars to donuts your usb is 1.1 on your old computer. (not that the fz series even USES all of usb2.0's speed, but still - if you connect other drives to usb, you might as well get a 2.0 pci card and have more modern chip/driver for your serial connection)

It works now. They have drivers for all versions including Win98 and WIN98SE. You are making this too difficult.

Doesnt work i have win98...thanks anyway.

CD usb driver anyone?

Sorry if im being a painin the ass
;) you're just trying to get your old pc to work. nothing wrong with that!

I really do agree with neil, try to get yourself a cheap new usb2.0 pci card. if you can, why not even get a usb2.0/firewire card, just for future expansion? not sure what they cost near you, but usb add-on cards are VERY low cost.

but I wonder how many current ones DO guarantee win98 (not even 98se) support.

let me throw this out there - is there any chance you might consider running linux? ;) linux will run JUST FINE on old old hardware. and will support usb with no extra drivers or patches. I know this for a fact ;)

why not convert that old win98 box to a linux box? it will be more stable, I'm sure of that, too! and more secure from a network perspective.

I just clicked around. none of the cards I clicked on had win98.
ALL needed win98se.

which one did you find, specifically, that didn't need 'se' ?

I thought he had 98se. None of the cards support 98. Isn't the USB mess the reason MS went to 98se? Maybe he could find one in an old issue of Computer Shopper (do they still have that?) -LOL

Not upset. This problem has caused headaches for many people. I don't think it is just as simple as putting in new drivers - there are some major problems with the 98 operating system with regards to USBs. If you don't apply the operating system patches the new drivers may do you no good. Maybe you could check around with a used computer store and get the 98se upgrade CDs. Good luck.

Sorry, but USB 2.0 cards will frequently not even install on an old box (mainboard) which came out in the win98 era. That is, it won't even install enough to run USB 1.0

Why don't you just use an SD card reader installed into the FDD or opticaL drive slot?
