FZ30 vs FZ50 - Two more sample pics

It makes sense only to compare the area that is on the focus plane.
The DOF differs.
Do you know that both cameras share exactly the same lens and their
sensors are exactly big = exactly same DOF at 35 mm and F7.1?
Besides this photo is made well beyond the hyperfocal distance

I know I've done a bad job as photographer when viewers of my photos check for sharpness.

It's a bit late in the game for Panny to "Make your day" and
somehow I doubt if a miracle is in the making for them. I will,
however, keep my hammer in the tool shed and not get into all of
the bashing. I'm sure Harry Callahan will take care of business
when the time is right - lol.

Lol....

Might stick on the old Dirty Harry DVD later! Just to get in the mood! lol

The FZ50 has not even been released yet and yet there seems to be
a breathless rush to prove that it is inferior to the FZ30, if not to every
other Panasonic camera that preceded it. A similar phenomena seems
to be happening with the LX2.

In truth it is too early to tell whether these just barely announced
cameras will be winners or turkeys.

How about a moratorium on all of this questionable speculation until
these cameras are released and there is some reasonable basis (testing
and experience) to form sound judgements.

Look, we are pretty certain that Panasonic guys are watching this discussion. For instance, it has forced them to take down full-res versions of FZ50 shots previously published here:

http://computers.livedoor.com/series_detail?id=45567&page=3

So, maybe this very discussion is going to lead to further improvements of FZ50 before it is released!

What is wrong with that?

In fact, we may be doing a BIG favor to the global photographic community. A big favor to you, a future owner of FZ50.

I found that code on pany's site. I think they took it down after I downloaded it, though.

the marketing department is trying to boost sales of the leftover FZ30's. Once the majority of back stock has been sold, better sample images will be posted from the FZ50.

current models, a new model means lower value of the current one - not just monetary but psychologically as well (the impression of a new one being a better one - yes, look at us, supposedly better than our stone age ancestors : ).

Does this run as a biatch job? ;) ;)

It does seem to have been installed as a firmware update on Robiro :D

Yes. FZ10 owners did the same thing on this forum when the FZ20 come out. FZ20 owners did the same when the FZ30 came out. On and on it goes. . . . Please get out and take pictures with the camera you've got.

It's a really tough choice, I prefer the color of the FZ50 but it seems that the FZ30 is a tad sharper.

However, I am not sure if VEIII is entirely to be blamed. I looked at the LX2 vs. LX1 photos at the same site, and it seems that the LX2 is vastly improved in terms of overall quality (look at the flower macro and some of the building shots!). The LX2 shoots much brighter and richer photos. I noticed in one of the photos, a tree branch was pixelated on the LX1, but fine on the LX2.

So, perhaps the LX2 was later in production, and therefore maybe we can hope that the FZ50 gets a few fixes...

"A man's got to know his camera's limitations."

Detective Callahan is a wise man and seems to know quite a bit about photography.

Sure we are better. We subtract, multiply and record much better than ever.

Subtraction - We can kill more people and faster than ever before in history.

Multiplication - The world's overcrowding and overpopulation speaks for itself, even with the recent advances in subtraction

Recording - Hey, even with complaints about noise and IQ, our Pannys can certainly do better than those nasty prehistoric cave paintings found in France.

hehehehe

Is that covered under the GPL or do they require an NDA? Hey, what's with the loop, not good for an SOA architecture, I was hoping for a Web Service.

I would wait for a review myself...but on the colour issue, pannie has been on a mission to "saturate to death" its colour hues, samples from the 50 indicate they are very consumer like...

This is good if you like em like that, but most serious photogs like em a tad neutral so you can punch up later. Just something to bear in mind.

also include the whole 'throw-away' concept that the western world (at least) is now using. things aren't designed to last a long time - they're DESIGNED to break and wear out so you can throw it away (landfill...) and re-buy it again, thus (sigh) keeping the economy going. wrongly, but ...

and don't forget division. at least in the last decade or so, I've seen the US more DIVIDED than ever before. I seem to remember a certain bushSon saying "I'm a uniter not a divider". nothing could be further from the truth. if there are contentious ideas - you can be pretty sure he has tried to make them new laws of the land ;(

actually, the current thinking was that they were created by the ConeHeads. you didn't know that, did you?
