Hey everyone...

Here's my best shot so far this Christmas (and it's still Christmas Eve) taken with my G2. My daughter just got a new outfit for herself and one that matches for her doll. Cute as it can be.

This shot is straight from the camera, no editing at all. I used the 420EX flash bounced off the ceiling and the Lumiquest 80-20 for fill.

Why not post your best? I'll post some more when I get them... still in love with this camera!

Happy holidays!

That's a really sweet picture Bryan. I just bought a G2 today and I'm looking forward to trying it out taking pictures of my two little ladies.

Great picture of your daughter - you've got a wonderful eye.

I'm just beginning to learn about the lumiquest -- aren't there different colored inserts that can be used? If so, which color did you use?

There are different inserts in one of the models. I use the one that has no inserts. 80% bounces off the ceiling, and 20% off the Lumiquest.

Thanks.

What to admire more, your good timing or your daughter's good taste in outfits??? Very nice how the 80-20 provides soft fill light to eliminate shadows from the bounce.

Thanks for all you've contributed to this forum and wishing you & yours the best this year and always.

Now how do you expect us to compete with that! Lovely.

Wonderfull shot Bryan, really caugt the moment and exposure is "!". Bouce flash really makes a diference. I am still trying to improve my skills shooting with bouce flash on full manual (my Canon 300TL flash from my old T90), but it compensates for the final result.--Paulo Abreu http://www.pbase.com/psergio/canon_g2

Hey Bryan

This is an excellent shot, could you post the EXIF data for this photo.

Thanks

Don't mind at all. I'm not sure I like everything you did, and would likely punch it up a bit myself when I go to print it.

Mind telling what you did, and why you prefer it that way?

Thanks.

Bryan

Bryan.... Thats the really nice thing about this hobby of digital photography, you can play around with an image and suit yourself how you want it to look... I agree my alterations are a bit over the top... but I got carried away :-)

Ok well I used a contrast mask to bring out the details of the tree... Then applied motion blur to the highlights in two directions. Added some sparkle to the tree (overdone a bit). When applying the blur I used a layer mask and gently brushed back the effect on the face and the doll, making sure I gave the edges of the dolls face a little more to give that side light effect. Then a final levels touchup.... oh and I cropped it a bit and took out the knot in the wood cabinet in the background.

I have all made these effects into actions.... saves heaps of time and are always repeatable.

The reason I did what I did is because I have a G1 and am thinking of upgrading to a G2.... needed to play with a real world G2 shot to see if it was worth it :-) I also like using Photoshop to combine multiple images, turn my flash shots into looking like studio shots etc etc... The shot in the camera is only the beginning :-)

Very cute. You must be a proud dad. We all strive to capture that special moment, to take that 'just right' picture, and this one...is definitely a keeper.

If you did your work on the original, by all means, email it to me, OK? I'd like to show my wife.

Sure like to have the actions, too... can you export those?

Thanks, Mike. Great fun!
