Phil's A100 review up - Highly Recommended!

With all due respect how is the Oly camera/s more modern? You mean
they 4/3 format?
I will not repeat the points obove in
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1037&message=19425032

But yes you are right, the viewfinder of the current modern Oly DSLRs is not so good. But they are more modern in the way that the 2003 established FT standard solves some problems the old mount standards have.

It depends how you and I weight the points.

I understand that other people have other needs than I, and there is no perfect camera or system, Oly is not perfect, Nikon is not perfect, Sony is not perfect and Canon is also not perfect.

AF speed and AF collimation accuracy are both ahead of the 7D/5D.
Until we know otherwise, back focus etc may be a thing of the past.
Hi David,

Can you say anything about a100 AF in low light, like f1.7, 1/10
sec, ISO 400 (without focus assist flash)? --Les
Why ask that? The 5D will focus on a black leather bag in shadow 1/6th of a second at f1.6 using the f1.4 lens - first time, no hunting. The A100 is better than the 5D but mine is still in the parcel system due to arrive any minute!

The 7D and 5D are both easily capable of what you describe above.

Hi David,

I ask because I shoot many pix in dim museums with my 7D, using settings like the above. Many shots are blurry and this is due either to poor AF (I sent my 7D to KM several times for backfocus problems) or to handshake caused by the very slow shutter speeds I was using with my 1.7/50mm. Either might explain blurry pix. I am considering the a100. If the a100 focuses better in dim light than the 7D and has solved the backfocus problem, then I will only have to contend with handshake, not focus errors by poor AF. With the a100, I will likely have to stay with a max ISO of 400. --Les
