I've got a ww project for all of us, day in the life of Canon owners.

I created an account for us at pbase: canontalkforum. If we decide to use this, how to manage access? Distribute passwords openly in this forum or via e-mail only?

I have a sample gallery with a test image: http://www.pbase.com/canontalkforum/ctf_test_gallery
Some of you have probably seen those books where photographers
around the world took photos on the same day and combined them in
a book. Well looking at all these galleries got me to thinking,
what if all the Canon digital camera owners that were interested
all submitted one photo taken on the same day and they were posted
on a website using something like BreezeBrowser.

I got to thinking about this after looking at some galleries from
this month showing ice and snow in one and outdoor BBQs in others.

A possible day could be January 1, 2002
Subject: An outdoors shot showing what life is like on January 1
wherever you live in the world. These pictures could have people,
place, things, or events as the subject matter.
Groundrules, one photo per submitter, nothing offensive, i.e., G or
PG rated only.
Submit photo with location and subject

Does anyone have the means to set up a gallery that participating
people could post these pictures to on the internet? Or could they
be sent to someone who could post them?

What do people think about this idea and are there any volunteers?

Yi,

I was able to log in as "Canon Talk Forum" with the password you provided and posted a picture. It worked fine.

This process raises some question that maybe others on the forum know the answer to. Can multiple people be logged into a PBase gallery under one user name at the same time. If not, we could run into problems with posting pictures on the first, especially if someone forgets to log out.

It looks like we have several options for doing this project:

1. Individuals log in and post to a pbase gallery...if multiple users are possible, this would be the best self service option. If we use this option, I would suggest posting the password in this forum and hoping nothing gets messed up. Emailing the password to people would be troublesome.

2. Send all pictures to one person, I will volunteer, and that person can batch post them to a gallery.

3. Send the picture to one of the people whose volunteered to host a gallery site.

My preference is option 1 or 2 so that other people besides the canon people can see the gallery without having to be pointed to it.

Does anyone know the answer to my Pbase question about multiple people being logged on at the same time?

Rich

The easy way to test is anyone with 2 computer log in both at same time.

Multiple simultaneous logins should be OK - I was still logged in while you were posting your "Holiday cookies" photo.

Rich,

Could you send out an email that tell us where we should post all those pictures to?

I do have a web site in HK, which should have several GB storage and 256Kbps bandwidth, but I'm wondering is there any better place to post the picture.

Nevin

Great idea. Please post a message at the end saying where the picture should be sent, etc.

I just got a G30 today, it was supposed to be here before Christmas
but UPS did not have their act together. I'm having fun now.

I must be a photographer - I keep running around in circles of
confusion.

I have just noticed this thread, got no time to open each reply to get the info (Phil hasn't given us the possibility to view or print all responses in one page, yet), would like to read a summary to know how is the state, web site, condition etc.

Hello all, I have set up a database on pbase at:
http://www.pbase.com/canonjan1/galleries

If you have your own galleries on pbase, you will probably have to log out of your user name and log in to this one
The log in user name for this database is CanonJan1 (capital C and J)
The password is: CTFJAN1 (all upper case)

Please test it out over the next several days by posting sample photos. I am staying logged in and want to see if others can log in at the same time and post photos. If this works, I will either clear out the database or set up a new one for the real Jan 1 photos. if you have trouble, please email me or post on this database and we will make alternative plans.

Please read the notes on the gallery to see how the captioning or naming of files is recommended (i.e., start with your location).

Please limit yourself to no more than 4 photos for January 1 and try to size them to less than 400k each.
