Warning to everyone experiencing the current heat wave, squirrels will up root your flower pots to keep cool!

What a funny shot. Of all the squirrel shots I've seen posted, this is the funniest position I've ever seen one in. He couldn't have stayed that way long did he? The heat wave is causing some strange behavior in all things around us. ;-)

he stayed in the pot for probably a couple of hours keeping cool. We have 4 of those hanging flower pot things and he first went after the one furthest from my house(its attached to a deck) and for about a week all we knew was something was up rooting our flower pot. Since the first one was ruined my dad removed the soil from it and the next day the next one got up rooted and once again no witnesses and so my dad cleans up the soil on the deck and removes the rest of what is left from the pot. But the other day I saw it as it attacked the 3rd flower pot and I grabbed my camera =). Now I just need to get it framed for my dad.

GREAT pic!!!!

Would it run away if attempt to give it a nut/feed it? Wouldn't it be funny to see his friends in the other pots? Talk about a spa....

Yea that's a shot I'd really like, a picture of all of his friends in the other 2 pots, maybe if I put soil back in them I can get that shot! The pots are perfectly arrange to where I could get 3 of the 4 pots in the same shot.

And these squirrels seem real timid, it'd be hard to get them to eat a nut without me being a good distance away. But I haven't tried just a whole lot at feeding them so it might just be a matter of getting them used to me. Right now they're used to eating the corn cobs we've attach to one of our trees.(before that they'd eat all of our bird feed leaving nothing for the birds, we also had to put wire mesh around the bird houses so the squirrels wouldn't naw on it to make the hole bigger so they could nest in them too)

thx for the comments everyone, I'll post a few more pics of the squirrel chillin' when I get home.

Thats one of the cutest things I've ever seen!!!

that wins the prize for odd animal behavior.

here are some more pictures of my squirrely friend. He didn't come out today though -.- in matter fact I didn't even see him on his favorite tree branch. Oh well it wasn't as hot today as it had been, but I did get to take some pictures of a humming bird sitting still on his tree branch! lil bit boring though without having a good in flight picture!

He looks lke he could use a nice cold beer and the remote - cable or sattelite?

I'll misquote Donald Rumsfeld when I say,
'You go take pictures with the glass you've got.'

I meant to post these the day after but the forum was experiencing a lot of hiccups

This squirrel is much younger and way cooler, so I think it was this one that did all the damage now and the thing hardly stayed still.

It showed up early in the morning but I did not want to rise my shutter speed to high because the pics would come out too dark so in consequence I only got a few that were clear and all the others are just one big blur! It only stayed in the pot for a few minutes rolling around, then it made a B line to my roof I think it realized I was alive.

fantastic awesome great wonderful funny unusual photo. I love it!

You have got to stand for something or you will fall for anything.

Incredible shots. Things have finally cooled off here (Northern California), but with those 110 plus temperatures last weekend a lot of little critters were finding any way to cool down. Hope it cools down where you are.
