Distributors Getting K10D

The prototype at the PMA show was bigger (taller and deeper) than the *ist D/DS/DL. The SR mechanism means that it has to be deeper to allow space for the mechanism but also for the movement of the sensor. The K100D is deeper than the *ist D/DS/DL too, of the same reason.

Thanks for your kind reply Roland.

It seems that my speculation to keep the 35mm-reflex-Pentax-gear, that I´m gathering since the days of the K2, will have a future option within lifetime. :-)

With Sony and Nikon coming out with their "new" 10mpx bodies and related announcements and teasers, it is getting to be time for Pentax to follow suit w/some pre-announcement feature teasers too.... much fun with those!!!! :-)

Especially if a September release is in the cards.... Also, the 10mpx from Sony and Nikon both likely to be in the under $1,000 USD range, is very good news! Drives the potential prices down for consumers....

I for one am incredibly interested in this new body - especially "if" it includes SR and a HIGHER than 3fps frame rate (rumors on the new Nikon are that it will do 4.5fps)... and I'm "guessing" it will. My D200 will go directly up for sale and I'll go on a waiting list for the - though I will likely keep my Fuji S3 due to excellent out of the cam jpegs and I love the handling interfaces.

First off, I am thrilled to see Pentax moving ahead with its DSLR line. For those of us who have stuck with 'em, this is definitely good news. Also, the SR in body could potentially be a big plus vs. some of the other players; Pentax should capitalize on the fact that now "all" your lenses have SR (as far as I can tell, at least modern AF lenses).

I have two D bodies, which I love, but I must say, a 10mp body with SR would be great, because it would help with portrait enlargements. That said, my wish list is small:

1. Faster, better low-light AF (to me, this would be reason enough to buy -- the D is good, but not as good as I sometimes would like at wedding receptions).

2. Faster FPS/buffer.

I won't argue with other folks' suggestions -- many are good. Bring it on, Pentax! We're wating. Next: in-lens focus motors...

The SR works even with non autofocus lenses.

When a manual focus lens is attached, you can select a focal length from a menu. Manual focus lenses doesn't tell the camera the focal length, so you have to set it manually, but you can do it.

It's not a good solution for zooms, but it's better than nothing.

The ONLY concern is the noise with this sensor. The new Sony
A100 has a LOT more noise than the Minolta 5D it "upgraded",
which used a 6 mpxl sensor.

I guess, as in all things related to photography, it is a case of
compromises... :(

Well Pentax has space for two DSLRs:

1) DS replacement - something like a K100D with a pentaprism, maybe slightly larger buffer, and if the Sensor exists it would be a good marketing thing to have 8mp, although maybe not so great for noise!

2). D replacement/D200 competitor - something like the above but with a different body, extra control wheel, wireless flash, 10mp, metal build and so on.

There was that probably completely unreliable rumour about a Samsung 12mp sensor.... Maybe the DS replacement will be 10mp and a possible D200 competitor/high spec body carrying 12mp - although I cannot really see this happening ;)

But AA batteries would be most welcome, neh essential!
