I took this picture on mid-summers day,it was a cold, horrible day and at last no-one was about so I was able to take a person free shot of this part of the ancient river banks in Durham UK. I loaded pics on computer and this image was present.I am not a nut case,I don't believe in spooks but I have no idea what this figure is or where it came from. My wife is suitably in awe as she believes in the past coming foreward to join us,she is spooking me over it,I must confess. It is not an altered photo at all. Feel free to examine it-but I maintain that no-one was in shot when I took picture.

Yeah, I like that. Right at the top of the vanishing point, your eyes have to go there but then you can't tell if it's my mother-in-law or a ghost.
Really nice.

Having blown up the image to around 200% it does seem that the person is wearing clothing more apt to the early 1800's. Aslo she is not on the path but in the foliage. Given the fact that for the past 3 weeks the UK has been on par with spain temperature wise I think it would be highly unlikely that anyone would be wearing a full length neck high black dress at this time. Also given the fact that Durhamis a city steeped in history I must conclude that you have indeed captured a ghost.

Well done enjoy the airshow!

But why is the ghost wearing a towel on its head? Do you think it just got out of the shower? Did they use showers back then?

Or maybe it just had a swim in the nearby river to cool off in the appalling heat and was wearing a bathrobe on its way back to the village, to freak out the tourists?

ezee... Hope you don't mind me cropping and enhancing part of your picture...

I want to make clear that I didn't add to or take away from your image other then to use the following method to increase resolution on a cropped portion of your original.

I cropped the point of interest and used PhotoZoom Professional "s-pline" to get rid of the blocky appearance then used a few layers in PhotoShop to enhance the dynamic range so there was a bit more detail in the picture... Then a single pass of Focus Magic plugin for Photoshop set to a 5 pixel radius. Very creepy, this picture you took... If it isn't a person who appears to be looking back at you and it isn't a rare combination of patterns that play with the human sense of perception then I would say it's a ghost!

Very creepy indeed!

Thanks for having the courage to share your experience!

You say in your original post that it was a 'cold' day on June the 24th (Midsummers day). Is there any reason why it was so cold in that area, given that this has been a very hot summer thus far here in the UK?

Also it's always very frustrating in photo's like this that the figure is way off in the distance beyond the scope of any detailed examination.
