LBA: DA21/3.2 Ltd (1 pic)

Hi Lance

Thank you. I am really happy with the DA21.

Up to now, I used the DA16-45 as walk around lens. I might consider
using the DA21 and DA40 instead...
I would also like to see more images and of somebody could post some DA 16-45 images at the same focal length to compare with.

I also use the DA 16-45 and the primes I have in that range are the FA 31 Ltd and FA 43 Ltd. I also have the DA 14 but the DA 16-45 performs very well at 21mm and if there is no significant difference I might pass on DA 21 and wait for some DA tele primes instead.

Hi John
How is the colour balance? I find the DA40 a little warmer than my
other Pentax lenses, even warmer than my Sigma 17-70. Is the match
between the DA40 and the DA21 quite close? Doesn't matter much with
a zoom but I like the "look" to stay consistent if I'm swapping
prime lenses.
The colour balance of both lens is very similar. That should not be a problem.

Dominique, I always like your photography. All 3 of the shots with the DA 21mm are very nice. The full size versions really tell the story, very sharp. Thanks for sharing and gread job.

Very nice images as regards to composition and many things which I am no expert, but I have to be honest. I'm somewhat of a pixelpeeper by nature. At the reduced size I thought there was something funny going on with the bokeh, and the pine needles of the trees looked a little suspicious.

When I looked at them full size I could see chromatic aberration around the edges which I have not yet seen from a Pentax prime lens. I would check it out further if I were you. Maybe a filter you used, or something else is happening at some point during post processing?

Your lenses are probably fine, and your photo skills are defenitely up there as well.

Cheers!

Ok, I will try to make and post some comparison shots of DA21 - DA16-45@21 and DA40 - DA16-45@40.

What would be a preferable subject (flowers or landscape)?

I have seen this purple fringing. I had quite strong backlight. I did not use any filter, just RSE to convert the RAWs to jpg. I could send you the RAW file if you would like to check...

Sure. I'd like to see the .PEF if it's no problem. I'll install RSE here, and see if maybe there's a way to get rid of that purple and green. I know in Silkypix back home I can have some pretty good control over that stuff, but I only normally see it with the kit lens at about 18mm. or so, and of course the conditions need to be unfavorable as you pointed out as well.

I think you could send it to my e-mail address or what do you suggest?

Hi Lipo

I managed to remove the purple fringing using Silkypix. But I am sending you the PEF of that picture anyway (per EMail).

I cannot say a lot concerning image quality. I will wait for some
landscape shots...

The build quality is similar to the DA40 Limited, excellent.

However, on the DA40, I could put a circular pol or UV filter on
the lens and put the lens hood on top of it. On the DA21, there is
a 49mm thread for a filter, but the lens hood is mounted on a
holder below the filter thread. So one has to choose between a
filter and the lens hood.

Hi Dominique,

Can you tell me about the protective cap for the DA 21mm. Is it felt-lined, like the FA Limited lenses? Does this cap work with the lens hood or UV filter?

Thanks so much!

John

Hi John

I have no FA limited lens. The cap is however felt-lines and works with lens hood.
