Hey Kids. I just got a notice from Circut City ( nope their outta UZI's but Frys still has e-100's) that my camera will go out of warranty in Feb, they want 159 for a three year one, thru GE and someone else, sure I say .... Im thinking that since im starting to see dead pixels poppin up now and then in the threads, maybe a Oly warranty would be the one, question is, who has a oly warranty and has actually used it, is it worth the price?

I'd trust Oly's before the others. I've heard bad things about Mack, for example. Long delays and then no fixes. --21oo, B-3oo3o4oJuli

I bought the Oly 2 year extension for each of my 2 C2100's and my E100. My oldest UZI is only 10 months old, and just went in for repair of a single dead pixel (bright white spot in all photos). It appeared suddenly after over 10,000 shots.

The Oly extended warranty includes one complete checkup and cleaning at the oly service center during the warranty period. I figure that is worth $80 (the cost of the oly warranty) by itself. All those little zoom motors and IS stabilizion mechanics scare me and, besides pixel problems (easy to fix post processing) if one of those goes bad the camera is completly unusable.

So I can't say for sure if the Oly warranty is a good deal or not, but I think it is.

Where do you buy the extended Olympus warranty? No paperwork was in my camera that indicates availability. Is this something Olympus offers after registering the camera?

Where do you buy the extended Olympus warranty? No paperwork was
Go to

http://www.ecost.com

then search for "200605"

You will find the warranty. Note it does not list the 2100, but this actually is the extended warranty oly uses for all its more expensive digital cameras. It also covers the E100 and a bunch of others not listed in the description.

Ecost will not have it in stock (they never do) and the order form will say "call". Don't bother, just order it. You will get it in about 2-3 weeks. Ecost charges a total of about $13 shipping and handling (rip off), but they are reliable and the total cost is still less than other vendors.

You can purchase the warranty anytime during the first 12 months you own the camera.--HollandE1OORS/C21OOUZ

A search at http://www.shopper.com shows Ecost to be the cheapest (before shipping costs) at $62.88, $65.99 at PC Mall, $66.99 at TC Computer (I think they are owned by PC Mall). The next cheapest is $90.95.

They have the part number listed at the computer wholesale distributor we use, but it is a special order item. I have not checked to see if they will let me order one (they list lots of stuff that I can't order since I am not authorized). I am also not sure if I COULD order one if Oylmpus would be happy with me being the "dealer". Anyway, they are $72.49 wholesale from the distributor.

These prices are for the "Gold" Oympus 2 year extended warranty.

For $60-75 for 2 extra years, plus the free cleaning/adjustment it does not sound like a bad deal.

Order it through Olympus. It's about the same price and the Gold
warranty extends the warranty to two more years. It's listed under
accessories under the camera. I ordered mine last week. I'd
rather deal with Oly than some unknown quantity. They are slow on
delivery of the paperwork. I haven't gotten mine yet.
But I think Holland and others are saying that you can buy the Oly gold warranty at ecost for about half price or less, if I am not mistaken. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I just can't see purchasing the Olympus 200605 Gold Extention from Olympus for $170, when places like E-cost sell the 200605 for around $67. Well, I have 11 months to find a deal on it.

where did you buy it?

I have heard that many company sale it cheaper than Olympus but they will not sale it to you if you did not buy the camera from them?
Rick Dessinger,

I almost never buy extended warranties...but I did buy the gold
extended warranty from Olympus for my 2100 UZ. Like Holland, I
believe the cleaning is worth the price of the warranty.
