Hey all,

sorry if this has been covered before.. the searchengine is
out of order for the past few hours so I haven't been able
to run a search for this topic.

I need mass storage for backpacking trips with my 4Mpx
camera (E-10) that can hold enough pics for at least a
4 week trip... The only (more or less) affordable option here
in Europe is the Sima Imagebank (as a rule of thumb, take
the US price and triple it). Does anyone have experiences
with the 20gig version? Good? Bad? Alternatives available to
us poor guys over here in the expensive parts of the world?

cheers,

Im going backpacking with a Dimiage 7 I was planing of getting the 10 gig digital wallet - b&h cameras have one for 299USD. I also live in an expensive part of the world (australia) so I will mail order it.

Where are you travelling to?
cheers,

Bram

That's also an option.. but after all the taxes, customs fees, shipping
and handling and all the other things added to the price as soon as
the package arrives on this part of the atlantic it's hardly a bargain
anymore.. I guess I'll stick with the Imagebank I can get over here.
Though the nice thing about the DW is that it's battery operated..

I just came from China/Tibet/Nepal ( http://www.pbase.com/brambos )
and I am planning for 2002 to go to Syria and to Laos/Cambodia

cheers from Amsterdam,

Only with the additional battery pack afaik. Or the European package
differs from the US version. Wouldn't surprise me. There's always more
goodies in the US boxes than in the Euro boxes.. with cameras there's
larger CF cards and NiMH chargers and stuff like that which we have
to buy separately. Anyway.. I should stop complaining about stuff like
that.. it's getting tired and it'll probably never change.

Bram .. I bought the Image Bank with no drive ($119.00 US) .. bought a 20 gig IBM Travelstar on Ebay ($110.00 US) .. to power it up I bought the Maha 7.2 volt lithium battery pack (I head that the IB can just power off unexpectedly with just AA batteries) .. anyway, the Maha was another $50.00 US ... I LOVE it .. works great..I have 20 gigs and it was less than $300.00 .. it ROCKS !... TNT

found one locally .. used..someone who did not realize what he
needed and wanted to sell it quickly and did so at a loss ... my
loss his gain..
I've just ordered one here in Holland at http://www.kamera-express.nl
for Hfl.995,- ($415) which was the best price I could find for the
20gig version. Not too bad for European standards.

cheers,
