I need additional storage for my Canon 10D and I was looking into this particular brand. The price is $84.00 plus $5 shipping from Newegg.

Is this a good brand? I currently use Sandisk II.

Yes, it is pretty good - and pretty fast too. Comparable more to the Sandisk Extreme III than the Ultra II.

Checkout Rob Galbraith's CF Card Database:

Also see his table for CF card speeds Canon 30D

The Ridata 150X performs better than the Extreme III or Lexar 133X in the camera.

And you cann always trust the Egg for a good deal.
Good luck.

I have purchased 4 Ridata/Ritek cards in the past and all have perfomed without issues. Am planning on picking up some of the new 150x cards based on past performance.

My Ridata 150X 4G CF performs noticeably slower than Sandisk Ultra II CF , and much slower than an A-Data 150X SD, on my EOS 1D Mk II. That made me wonder if it's just a re-labeled 80X...

Have a look at Rob's table for the EOS-1D Mark II
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6896

The Ridata 150X 2GB is right up there at the top performing better than a Extreme IV 4GB. But then again, the Ridata 150X 8GB is far below on the table performing worse than a Ultra II 4GB.

Looks as if the size of the memory in the card has an effect on its in-camera performance. What size is your Ultra II? I am guessing 1 or 2GB.

For an accurate speed comparision, you should test the cards in a PC with a good USB reader. I found that in camera performance is very variable. I once got a Transcend 80X card which peformed quite nicely in my Minolta A2. So I went and got one more and it was almost half as fast as the first one - same brand, same size and bought from the same store. Go figure. I guess that is why Lexar & Sandisk are more reliable - the card-to-card variation would be minimal.

Cheers.

I bought a Ritek 150 4 gig card from Newegg about one month ago because the price was just to tempting and the reviews here seemed to be good. I used it for about two weeks almost everyday. Then one day it would popped up CF error. I had a few choice words. It would not read from the camera or from a reader on my computer either. I finally gave up and tried to format the card since saving the 50 pictures seemed unlikely. It would not format in camera or by the computer. Newegg allowed me to return it and promptly refunded less 15%. Newegg is a great vendor. The loss of my photos bothered me enough I bought a 4gig Sandisk EX III. I am sure that Sandisk can fail also but so far I have three recent 2 gig sticks and now one 4 gig that seem to be reliable. I dont care about the speed as much as I do the thought that I might not loose my photos. A 4 gig stick holds about 400 shots in RAW and that means for me I could have 4 good shots that I dont want to loose. I have read many good comments about Transend. It may be unfair of me to abandon Ritek after this one failure but I dont want to feel uncomfortable about loosing any of the 1% of my shots that might be decent.

Well, I purchased the ritek and it seems to be ok with the 10D but my current card reader will not recognise the card.

Do I have to purchase a new reader too?

Most USB2.0 readers should be able to read upto 8GB without any problems. But older readers may have some compatibility issues.
