OK, I love working with Polarizing filters & am planning to get a Polarizer for my new 18 - 70mm zoom I just got for my D200. I only got an UV filter when I got the lens & camera, but I've decided I want to get a Polarizer as well.

Went on eBay and located several types of Polarizers, a few new to me, & I need feedback on what would be my right choice...

On eBay I've located regular polarizers of several brands, Nikon & Hoya & others. But I've also located a "Hoya PRO1 Digital Circular Polarizer", a "Hoya Super HMC Circular Polarizing Pro1 Filter", & a "Hoya Warm Circular Polarizing".

Any thoughts....

I use Singh-Ray warming polarizer and I have been extremely happy with it. Though a little expensive but these are worth every penny.

It is one case where the Nikon product is cheaper than the competition.

I've been pondering this filter, so thanks for the input.

A fine point on the warming part; Do you find that the warming aspect is just right or is it noticable? My concern is that if it si noticable, then perhaps it might be too much. But then again, the standard polarizers do add a blue tint....

Cheers,

I too have been considering this filter and was just perusing the
Singh-Ray website yesterday looking at this.

Couldn't find any comparison shots between the Std and Warming
Polarizer. How do you quantify the differnce between the Std and
Warming polarizer?

Another question, do you use the std ring filter or the Cokin sprocket
filter?

Thanks,
Al

To my eyes, the warming is just about right. Not at all overly noticeable. Here is a sample -

You can pay over $300 for Heliopan and B&W!

$139 is a bargain

$139.95 @ B&H.

Do a search on "XYmm circular polarizer"

XY = filter size: ie: 77mm
139 DOLLARS!

That's like twice as much as you'd pay for say a Tiffen Polarizer??

Fotomat
Yeah, but nobody is twisting your arm.
At least you have a choice.

The Tiffen may not be optically as good as
the Nikon, then again, it may not be noticable.

It would be waste to spend $70 to find out
you should have paid the extra $70, 'cause
you'd either have to live with it or be another
$140 poorer. I'd trust Nikon to make a
quality CP to put in front of their best glass.

I'm w/ Greg G. on this one, if your're going to put
it in front of your lense you want it to be the best
optically.

I've just located it through amazon.com for about $ 105.00. I found it on eBay for $ 99.00 but that's from China. I'd then rather order it through amazon.com. Though it's actually a camera store sending it out.....

That's why I wanted feedback. I've already bought on eBay another size polarizer for my 70 - 200mm lens which is a Nikon polarizer. I need a different size for the 18-70 mm lens. I was just confused over all the different types out there suddenly.

I've ordered the Nikon CP filter through amazon.com for just under $ 105.00.

I'm going to be WAY over my camera budget on this deal, but it should last me a while - I hope....

Swee shot! Loved the colors immediately!

OK, I just pressed the buy button on the Singh-Ray web site.... ! Thanks for posting a sample. Usually those kind of shots are pretty cool toned and the neutral/slightly warm toned colors tend to be more appealing.

... with a 67mm - 77mm step up ring. about $10. Much cheaper than a decent new 67mm CP filter.

Yeah, that's what I do. I buy filters to fit my largest size lens, then use a step up ring for the odd sized lens.
