Poll: Batteries - Proprietary or AAs?

AAs definately especially as a few days ago I went to a huge craft fair, found my rechargeables were dead and then was able to pick up some AAs. Can't do that with propreitary.

I guess companies do this to make more money by locking you into their battery system? but I wonder whether this pays back the RnD and production costs because I doubt many people actually buy an extra battery? (most as in 'normal' consumers).

What I wouldn't mind are high capacity Pentax rechargeable CRV-3 Lith-ions that still allow AA useage.

AAs alone in the subject line returns "Please enter a sensible message" 4 me ...

What would your preference be?
I would prefer AA batteries, but only if you can reliably get more than 500 exposures with a set of AA rechargables and I'd really prefer to have the option of an AA grip that takes 6-8 AA batteries for extended shooting.

If I can't get the above I'd rather have a proprietary battery.

I will admit to having a phobia about proprietary ones thanks to a couple of digi P&S cams that would die within half an hour after powering, even with the cams going to "sleep mode".

So much to see, so much to revel in, and photograph in this world..can one have too many cameras?

Can't relate to all the reasons some have quoted about AAs being a poor choice. I use them in my flash, PSD and camera. Great flexibility and i only need to carry one charger. (or none if I want to go really light, my PSD will recharge AAs.)

Same here. I had a battery grip on my ZX5N and the difference was night and day. I wish they would release a battery grip for the DS. I only use crv-3's.

Why can't Pentax give us approved RCRV3s??? otherwise I use single use CRV3s as they last for ages and I keep a spare set of AAs in my bag in case the CRV3s run out at a bad time..
