It looks as if later 7Ds may have improved but I notice that many recent complainers of faults have not bothered to post on this thread.

I admire brand loyalty but it is not forum members responsibility to sell more cameras. I don't want to sound depressing but new users should keep their fingers crossed as many have experienced problems a year later.

I've had my 7D for 13 months. At first I was concerned that I had a tilted sensor as many of my shots had a slight tilt, but some experimentation with a tripod proved that it was me and not the camera. I do have some flash issues (occasional bad exposure with 5600HSD and "caught in mid blink" issues due to the preflash) but these are known issues with the 7D and flash. Other folks have sent their units in for adjustment for these issues, some saw improvement and some didn't. I had thought about sending mine in for adjustment, but with the Sony takeover of KM service I'm less inclined to.
 
Keith-C: you are, in my opinion, might be a little too pessimistic.

Measured by todays standards: in my opinion and experience allmost EVERY brand, including top consumer bands, shows defects in some degree. The more you know of a specific brand the more you also know of those that should not have left the production. Even a USD 20.000 Patak Philippe has small mistakes which they claim their watches does not have.

This forum is a place for those with problems, interest and knowledge, like yourself, so in this line this thread is balancing.

Had 7D for a touch over 3 months, Hit 3000 exposures this weekend. Not a hicup. Also have a 3 year MAX warrantee with it.

Love it!

Thought about what I would do if it did go down. I was but a second wheil mine was in for warrantee repair.

As you read these forums (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Minolta, etc.) all you see are problems. That's because only people with problems and questions post to forums!

I have had a Maxxum 7D now for over a month. I just took it for 20+ day trip to U.S. east coast where it was jostled around in and out of a car 10-25+ times a day (usually in one of those minimaly padded SLR+zoom small bags).
I shot a 1 gig card of images for that trip. Still works fine.

At one point I thought the focus was bad but it was user error (that little focus area switch we all hate got flipped - but that is a flaw in ergonomics design not bad parts) I think about 25% of broken cameras (any brand) are user error or user caused breakage (rough handling or by accident).
 
I have taken 2500 shots in the past month and not one single problem with my 7D.

Sony bought Minolta DSLR parts and manufacturing and, as far as I have heard, will repair a camera if they have the parts or give you a refund. I'd be OK with either as I paid less for the 7D then an A100 costs (if they start giving those away in exchange). But I would probably take the refund and buy another 7D or better later.
 
Digitalshooter posted regarding a phone call from Sony, and they will not be swapping for A-100s.
